- This paper is an attempt to view the Jeju dialect of Korean from a language variation perspective, which is well defined in the optimality theory as different rankings of the same set of universal constraints. As part of this attempt, this paper will be concerned with a coordinating conjunction "Gwang" in the Jeju dialect, which stands in sharp contrast with "Gwa/wa," a representative coordinating conjunction in Standard Korean. In order to account for the difference between the two language varieties, a few constraints will be introduced with *CON2 at its core, which states that the coordinating conjunction should not folow the second conjunct.
