- This paper covers a comprehensive description of the study on sentences with "ba(把)" made between 1924 and 2000 A.D. The onset of this study dates back to the major works by Lijinxi, Wangli and Lushuxing before the liberation of China. This is followed by the study in the 1950's and 60's, when two ways of research, or diachronic and synchronic, were developed. In the 1970's and 80's, the five comparatively systematic research areas were introduced in terms of a new structure of active aspect and stative aspect. Since the 1990's, a strong emphasis in this study has been placed on a new approach to the semantic analysis of sentences with "ba".
