Study on the Idolization Concept and Description of KIM, Il Sung and His Son, Demonstrated on the Elementary Textbook of North Korea Chang ho Lim Kosin University KIM, Il Sung inaugurated as the supreme leader of North Korea in 1967, through which he launched a gradious project of making himself an idol. He published his own books and circulated them to all the citizens. He ordered and established 450,000 institutes throughout the country to do research on his ideology, fostering people to worship him. He also erected his own statutes and memorial buildings, which are numbered 170,000 throughout the country in order to idolize him. Since 1968 he required all schools from elementary to universities to use KIM Il Sung textbooks as requirements. Citizens had to attend twice a week those numerous institutes to study and memorize the life and history of KIM Il Sung. All children in all nurseries had to learn to call him as their father, that all things come from him, and all are thanks to him, and all has to give him thanks, and all had to live for him throughout their lives with ultimate commitment. Since 1986 when his son, KIM Jung Il was chosen as his successor, he required all schools to use and study KIM Jung Il textbook in order to idolize his son. KIM Il Sung and his son privatized the education of North Korea and focused on molding every citizen to be citizens who pay ultimate commitment to him and his son. They spend 40% of their national budget for this purpose. Now the South Korean society and churches cannot help but to be ready for the unification between the South and the North where for 60 years the citizens of the North have been brainwashed by the idolization education. This research will deal with how this idolization eduction on KIM Il Sung and his son all started, how it progressed, how it developed in education field in the North. This research focuses on the idolization concept demonstrated on the elementary Korean language textbooks of the North. In contrast to the North where there is active and concentrated efforts on idolization and military unification education, South Korean society and the churches are showing relaxed and loose attitudes on education for the Korean citizens on the reality of the North and unification. As a result of this research, this author suggests the need for the Korean churches that yearn for the unification with the gospel to have more specific mission strategies and educational goals for the purpose of evanglization of the North after the unification and evangelization policies as preparation for the unification, in addition to prayers. Furthermore, the need is confirmed in that we must add Christian unification education curriculum to the Sunday school curriculum for the elementary and middle schoolers. Not only that, but also we must reflect in the existing educational curriculum of seminaries and Christian universities this reality so that we can start unification education more specifically for the future church leaders.

1967년도, 김일성은 북한의 최고지도자인 수령으로 취임하면서부터 자신을 우상화하는 작업을 시작하였다. 자신의 책을 출판하여 전 국민에게 배포하여 읽히고, 전국 각지 45만 여 곳에 김일성사상연구실을 세워 자신을 연구하고 숭배하도록 지시하였다. 흉상과 동상 들, 기념관 등을 포함한 김일성우상화를 위한 상징물은 전국에 17만 개나 세워졌다. 1968 년부터는 소학교에서부터 대학까지 모든 학년을 대상으로 김일성교과서를 만들어 필수과 목으로 가르치도록 했다. 국민들은 매주 두 번씩 김일성사상연구실에 참석하여 정기적으 로 김일성의 어록을 학습하고 외워야 했다. 김정일을 후계자로 세운 후 1986년부터는 김 정일교과서를 만들어 모든 학교에서 김일성부자의 우상화교육을 강화하였다. 김일성부자는 북한의 교육을 사유화하여, 교육의 목적을 오로지 김일성과 김정일에게 충성하는 시민을 만드는 일에 초점을 맞추고 있으며, 국가예산의 40퍼센트를 이를 위해 쏟아붓고 있다. 한국사회와 한국교회는, 60년 이상을 이렇게 김일성부자 우상화교육으로 세뇌되어 있는 북한주민을 상대로 통일을 준비하지 않으면 안 되는 것이다. 본 연구는, 이러한 북한의 김일성부자 우상화 교육이 언제부터 어떻게 시작되고 변천되 어 왔으며, 교육의 현장에서 어떻게 전개되어 왔는가를 추적해 본 것이다. 본 연구에서는 특히 초등학교(소학교) 국어교과서에 나타난 우상화개념을 중점으로 살펴보았다. 본 연구 의 결과, 복음통일을 대망하는 한국교회는, 기도하는 일뿐만 아니라 통일로 가는 준비로서 의 북한선교 정책과 통일 후 복음화를 위한 선교정책 수립 및 교육을 구체화해야 할 필요 성을 제시하였다. 나아가, 통일세대들을 위하여 초중등 주일학교 교재에 기독교 통일교육 과목을 추가하고, 기독교대학과 신학대학원의 교육과정에도 과감하게 반영하여 장차 교회지도자들을 위한 구체적인 통일교육에 들어가야 할 필요성을 확인하였다.
