This study is to examine the impacts of community's characteristics on the residents' perception of police resource distribution in communities. According to studies on the relationships between policing and community, police activities are depended on community's characteristics and then it results in the differences of residents' perception on the police. To perform this study, the author collected the data from 710 questionnaires in 36 dongs of Daegu Metropolitan City. In addition, community's census data were also collected by a public information system. The results from Hierarchical Linear Regression Analysis reveals that community characteristics have an influence on the level of police resource distribution. Structural characteristics of community do not have statistically significant effects on the residents' perception of police resource distribution which menas that the police provide equal police services around Daegu city. Residents' interactions also fail to show a significant effect on the residents' perception of police resource distribution while collective efficacy of community has shown a successful significant effect. In addition, the level of victimization and physical disorder in community show a negative effect on the residents' perception of police resource distribution. Finally, age among demographic characteristics of residents has shown a positive effect as well.

이 연구는 지역주민들의 경찰자원배분에 대한 인식에 있어서 지역사회의 특성들이 미치는 영향을 살펴보기 위한 것이었다. 기존 지역과 경찰의 관계에 대한 연구들은 경찰활동이 지역사회의 특성에 따라 차이를 나타내며 결과적으로 지역에 따른 경찰에 대한 인식의 차이를 발생시킨다는 주장이다. 이 연구의 수행을 위해 대구광역시에서 36개 동을 무작위로 선정하고 각 동마다 15에서 20부의 설문자료를 편의표집에 의해 수집하였고 분석에 이용하였다. 또한 각 동의 구조적특성을 파악하기 위해 인구센서스 자료를 정보공개청구를 통하여 획득하였다. 위계선형회귀분석(HLM)의 분석결과 지역사회의 경찰자원 투입정도는 지역사회의 영향을 일부 받는 것으로 나타났다. 지역사회의 경제적 특성과 주거안정성은 경찰자원배분에 대한 주민들의 인식에 영향을 미치지 않았으며 지역사회의 인적교류 역시 아무런 영향이 없었다. 지역사회의 집단적인 사회질서유지능력을 나타내는 집합적 효율성은 지역주민들의 경찰자원배분 인식에 정적인 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타난 반면 지역사회의 범죄피해나 물리적 무질서는 경찰자원배분에 대한 평가에 부정적인 영향을 보여주었다. 마지막으로 인구학적 변인들 중 연령은 경찰자원배분에 대한 인식에 정적인 영향을 미치는 것으로 보인다.
