The purpose of this study is to analyze the 'Right Life' textbook in the elementary school focused on the perspective of ethnocentrism and cultural relativism. The first- and second-grade textbook 'Right Life' of the revised 2007 national curriculum was made to serve build up citizenship and liberal as national people. The analysis criterion is divided two part. One is the ethnocentrism which is contained 'understanding of self-culture', 'racial spirit', 'what people should do', and the other is cultural relativism which is contained 'cooperation', 'diversity', 'education of a citizen of the world', 'collaboration solution on the earth problem', 'ideology of universal education'. The results of analysis on contents related to the multicultural education in the elementary 'Right Life' textbook for the 1st and 2nd grade are as follows. The first, a various race is not appearing naturally to static image of textbooks. Images and pictures are presented as Yellow race which is emphasized unity nation race. Second, there is no reflection of multicultural standpoint as a result of analyzing national curriculum regarding multicultural contents. Third, during 1-2, 2-2 semester, ethnocentrism national patriotism and identity contents are contain very much in the traditional nation culture of ancestor. Since the former homogeneous Korean society has experienced a rapid change toward a multicultural society, it is needed to grow concerns for multicultural education. On the other hand, nationalism has prevailed in the society and is understood as conflicting with multiculturalism.

본 연구는 2007 개정 바른 생활 교과서와 교육과정을 다문화적 관점에서 분석하는 것이 목적이다. 이를 위하여 분석의 기준을 자문화 중심주의와 문화 상대주의로 구분하고 자문화 중심주의의 분석 기준으로는 ‘자기 문화 이해’, ‘민족 정체성’, ‘당위성’으로 나누었으며 문화 상대주의 분석 기준으로는 ‘협력’, ‘다양성’, ‘세계시민교육’, ‘지구적 공동문제 해결’, ‘보편적 교육 이념’으로 나누었다. 분석 결과 바른 생활에서는 다문화적 내용을 더 보완할 필요가 있는 것으로 나타났다. 문화적 상대주의적 요소로서 ‘협력’이나 ‘보편적 교육이념’에 대한 요소는 상당히 많이 발견되었으나 ‘다양성’, ‘지구 문제 공동해결’, ‘세계 시민교육’ 등과 같은 요소는 매우 빈약하게 나타났다. 특히 1학년 2학기, 2학년 2학기 교과서에서는 ‘자문화 이해’에 관한 요소들이 매우 강조됨으로서 국수주의적인 측면이 강조될 수 있는 위험을 안고 있는 것으로 파악되었다. 내용 요소의 보완과 더불어 삽화, 사진 부분에 있어서 다문화적인 인물이 등장하는 비율은 전체 교과서 페이지의 1.60% 정도로 시급히 보완해야할 사안으로 지적되었다.
