Pathological phenomena of modern society like rich-poor gap, alienation from others, has been rampant in our society. And increasing habitual larceny and larceny recidivism has made a lot of social problems. But there was a lack of academic effort to alleviate such a problem based on criminology or therapeutic treatment. This article involved defining of related concept, review of advanced research, making theoretical frame, analysis of current actual condition, arousing of seriousness with kleptomania problems. Through analyzing statistical data reported by the Supreme Prosecutors' Office, it took a general view of habitual larceny variation. Furthermore, it dealt with reasons of kleptomania and habitual larceny. Additionally, it sought for therapeutic solution to alleviate kleptomania problem. Various therapeutic treatments was brought out, for instance, counseling, conjoint family therapy, therapy connected with neighborhood community, art therapy, play therapy, music therapy. Focusing on documentary researching method and domestic review of advanced research could be mentioned as limitations or flaws, but it has academic contributions and meaningfulness considering to construct the base of future studies, despite lack of related research.

현대사회에서의 빈부격차, 소외 등 병리적 현상이 증가함에 따라 도벽 증상을 보이는 상습 절도범들이 늘고 있고 절도 재범이 만연하고 있어서 사회 문제화 되고 있는 실정이나 이에 대한 범죄학적인 연구나 치료적 접근의 노력은 부족해왔다. 이 연구에서는 관련된 개념을 정의하고, 선행연구를 검토함으로써 도벽과 관련된 이론적 틀을 형성하고, 우리나라 도벽 문제의 실태를 고찰함으로써 심각성을 환기하였다. 대검찰청이 발간한 11년 치의 ‘범죄분석’ 자료를 분석하여 상습 절도범의 증감 추이를 개관하여 그 심각성을 환기하고, 도벽 행동의 원인을 분석하였다. 나아가 각종 치료적 처우기법을 살펴 도벽 문제의 치료적 해결 방안을 모색하였다. 치료적 처우방안의 모색을 위해 상담치료, 가족치료, 지역사회 연계 치료, 미술치료, 놀이치료, 음악치료 등 도벽 문제 해결을 위하여 논의 가능한 각종 치료적 처우방안을 개관하였다. 국내의 실태분석과 문헌연구에 그친 한계가 있으나, 관련 분야의 연구가 부족한 실정을 감안하면 앞으로의 연구의 토대를 형성한 점 등에서 이 연구의 의의가 있다.
