This study analyzed the subject matter education and subject contents in the home economics education curriculum of the 14 teachers' colleges across Korea. The purpose of this study is to investigate of the current state of the home economics teacher curriculum in the secondary teacher's colleges and to explore the direction of the home economics teacher curriculum which can satisfy the ability requested to the home economics teachers. The results of this study can be summarized as follows: First, there are big differences in terms of the number of subjects in the department of home economics between 14 colleges of education. Second, many colleges established different subjects each while they are taking similar pedagogical contents in the subjects in terms of the classification system of subjects contents established in each colleges. Third, the subject matter education and subject contents in the home economics education of the college of education were categorized as 4~6 sections when they are classified as the subjects dealing with similar contents. Only 1~3 colleges established all categories of subjects uniformly, and most colleges established the subjects in some specified categories, not some other specified sections. The success or failure of training of home economics experts depends on the quality of education for pre-service teachers, thereupon the balanced framework of curriculum is required to be prepared overall.

이 연구는 향후 가정과 교육과정의 바람직한 개정의 틀을 제시하고 전국 14개 가정교육과에 2010년에 개설되어있는 교육과정을 분석함으로써 전공과 관련이 있는 ‘교과교육학’과 ‘교과내용학’을 비교․ 분석하였다. 연구 결과를 요약하면 다음과 같다. 첫째, 14개 대학별로 가정교육과에 개설된 과목 수에 있어 큰 차이가 있음을 알 수 있다. 둘째, 각 대학의 가정교육과에 개설된 교과내용학의 세부 분류 체계를 살펴보면 같은 학교 내에서는 유사한 교육 내용을 다루면서 각기 다른 과목명으로 개설되는 경우가 많았는데 이러한 현상은 특히 식생활, 의생활 영역에서 두드러졌다. 셋째, 각 대학의 가정교육과에 개설된 교과교육학과 교과내용학 과목을 유사한 내용을 다루는 과목들을 묶어 분류하였을 때 4~6 부문으로 유목화 할 수 있었는데 각 영역별로 균형성을 가지고 해당 과목을 고루 개설한 학교는 등 매우 적은 것으로 나타났고 대부분 특정 부문별로 편중되거나 아예 개설되지 않는 것으로 나타났다. 예비 교사교육 프로그램의 질에 따라 가정교육 전문가 양성의 성패가 달려있으므로 가정과 교사역량을 기반으로 한 표준화된 가정과 교육과정 마련이 시급하다.
