This study aims to analyze the determinants of ownership level of Korean manufacturing firms according to their internationalization processes (incremental globals vs born globals). This analysis is conducted through the transaction cost approach and bargaining power approach. We found following First, the determinants of ownership level was not fully explained by transaction cost approach and bargaining power approach in the case of born globals, contrary to that of the incremental globals. Second, the determinants show opposite sign in 3 variables among the 8 ones according to their specific internationalization process. It implies that we can find new conclusion if we analyze it again by different firm size, industry and region. Third, market accessibility shows similar result regardless of their internationalization process. It implies that born globals have the similar structure with the venture capital.

본 연구는 중국에 진출한 우리나라의 94개 제조기업을 국제화 과정에 따라 점진적 글로벌기업(Incremental Globals)과 태생적 글로벌기업(Born-Globals)으로 구분하고, 이들 간에 소유지분 결정요인이 어떻게 달리 나타나는가를 실증적으로 규명하여 비교분석하였다. 실증분석 결과, 첫째 태생적 글로벌기업의 소유지분 선택은 기존의 거래비용 및 협상력이론만으로는 충분하게 설명하기 어려웠다. 둘째, 8개의 소유지분 결정요인 중 3개 변수에서 점진적 글로벌기업과 태생적 글로벌기업 간에 서로 상반된 결과를 보였다. 셋째, 시장 접근성 변수에 대한 분석에 있어서는 점진적 글로벌기업과 태생적 글로벌기업 간에 매우 유사한 결과를 보였다. 이상과 같은 본 연구의 새로운 발견은 본 연구가 가지고 있는 몇 가지 한계에도 불구하고 국제경영전략, 특히 해외진출 소유지분 선택 전략 수립에 이론적, 실무적인 공헌을 할 수 있을 것으로 사료된다.
