Jeju municipal police enforcement meets about 7years and is caused by accomplishing the affairs one part the national police must take charge of, with the element which is affirmative is operating with manpower and budget scarcity etc.
Jeju municipal police from when leaving not only Jeju islanders from all citizens of the entire country receives the interest regarding.
From first the enforcement of Jeju municipal police system could be satisfied all residents is caused by with various problem and there is a point which is very difficult. Jeju municipal police who accomplishes a municipal police affairs respects the municipal police affairs accomplishment which is effectiveness drink․no license driver control circle including execution of official duties disruption control circle, transfers the part authority of prompt decision judgment claim etc. to suitability is advocating about the petty crime.
Currently the municipal police system whom past Participatory Government visualizes is applied from Jeju Special Self-Governing Province degree and is enforced as the municipal police proposal milestone which is a plan which will be executed with hereafter national the historical signification matter is a possibility of saying that is big. But this does not pass has the necessity which will consider to a point to character of demonstration execution. Also will introduce initially and will be manpower and the financial․professionalism․service form etc.

제주자치경찰은 시행 7년여를 맞아 인력과 예산부족 등으로 인해 국가경찰이 담당해야 할 업무 일부분에 대해 일정부분을 수행하고 있음은 긍정적인 요소로 작용하고 있다.
제주자치경찰은 출범 당시부터 제주도민들 뿐만 아니라 전국의 모든 국민들로부터 지대한 관심을 받아 온 것은 사실이다. 처음부터 모든 도민들을 만족시킬 수 있는 제주자치경찰제도의 시행은 각종 문제들로 인해 매우 어려운 점이 있다. 자치경찰 사무를 수행하고 있는 제주자치경찰은 효율성 있는 자치경찰 사무 수행을 위해 음주․무면허운전자 단속권을 비롯 공무집행방해사범 단속권, 경미한 범죄에 대한 즉결심판청구권 등의 일부 권한을 이양하는게 적합하다는 주장을 펴고 있다.
현재 제주특별자치도에서는 과거 참여정부가 구상했던 자치경찰제가 적용되어 시행되고 있으나 향후 전국적으로 실시될 예정인 자치경찰제의 이정표로서 역사적 의의는 크다고 할 수 있다. 하지만 이는 시범실시의 성격에 지나지 않는다는 점에 유의할 필요가 있다. 또한 처음으로 도입하여 시행단계에 있으므로 인력 및 재정․전문성․근무형태 등 운영상의 여러 어려움이 나타나고 있어 자치경찰제 발전방향으로의 제도보완은 필수적이라 할 수 있겠다.
향후 현재의 제주자치경찰의 활동과 역할 등에 대한 문제점들을 적극 발굴하여 보완하고 발전시켜 나가는 것이 제주자치경찰의 발전을 위해 가장 중요한 선결과제이다.
제주자치경찰제의 성공적인 정착을 위해서는 정부의 적극적인 관심과 뒷받침이 있어야 하며, 국가경찰과의 적극적인 유대관계, 자치경찰공무원의 자긍심과 책임감 그리고 지역주민들의 적극적인 참여와 관심 또한 중요한 요인이다.
