This study aims to examine the current status of competitiveness in manufacturing among Korea, China and Japan and its political suggestions. First, it examined the status of manufacturing and its prospect of our country, and compared structures of production with high-added value and competitiveness in manufacturing among Korea, China and Japan using UNIDO Industrial Development Report 2009. Then it is to give suggestions on development of manufacturing of our country in competition with the other two countries. Based on changes in indexes of competitiveness in manufacturing, we have consistently reinforced capacities of production and export in our manufacturing, and have successfully developed high-value added structures. However, our country have some challenges to overcome chase of the developing countries such as China, respond to global banking crisis, and occupy world market under global trend of green growth in advance. To overcome such challenges and to enter into upper class of competitiveness, the role of manufacturing should not be reduced and consistent structural transition into high value-added areas is needed.

본 논문에서는 한국ㆍ중국ㆍ일본 제조업 경쟁력 현황과 정책적 시사점을 중점적으로 살펴보고자한다. 먼저우리나라의 제조업 현황 및 전망, 한ㆍ중ㆍ일의 부가가치 생산구조 비교, 다음으로 UNIDO Industrial Development Report 2009를 이용하여 한ㆍ중ㆍ일의 제조업 경쟁력을 살펴본 후 결론에서 일본과 중국과 의경쟁에서 우리나라 제조업 발전을 위한 정책적 시사점을 제시한다. 제조업 경쟁력 지수의 추이분석에 기초할때, 우리나라 제조업은 생산 및 수출역량을 지속적으로 강화해 왔고 고부가가치 제조업으로의 구조전환또는 성공적으로 추진해 왔다. 그러나 우리나라는 현재 중국등 개발도상국의 추격을 극복해야하고 세계적인 금융 위기에 적극 대응해야 할 뿐만 아니라 녹색성장의 세계적 추세하에서 향후 세계시장을 선점해야 하는중 대한도전에 직면해 있다. 이러한 도전을 극복하여 경쟁력의 상위단계로 진입하기 위해서는 경제 활동에서제조업의 역할이 축소 되지 않도록 해야 할 뿐만 아니라 제조업내에서 고부가가치 영역으로의 지속적인
구조 전환이 필요하다.
