Generally speaking the purpose of seon is enlightenment. Enlightenment produce the wisdom. Wisdom produce the compassion. Eventually, enlightenment and compassion are oneness. The enlightenment and compassion are innate of the Buddhist canon, consisting of the Sūtras, the vinayas(rules of discipline), and the śāstras(commentaries of Buddhist doctrines). The Buddhist canon was made of the sermon of Buddha which expressed of language and words. In this point, we can say that one of the most important texts of Mahāyāna Buddhism, in which almost all its principle tenets are presented, including the teaching of seon. Now, we have to admitted the importance of texts of Buddhism, moreover seon-analects. Seon-analects are product of records by seon masters. Seon masters show that the thoughts and enlightenments through seon conversations. Seon conversations are to settlement of questions and to guide for enlightenment in self discipline. To accomplish these purpose, the seon masters use seon conversations in daily life. So seon conversations are conversations of seon, not conversations about seon. Seon conversations are consist of seon master and pupil, or more than. In case of seon conversations, one of the seon master and pupil is enlightenment without fail. If not, seon conversations are not formed. Seon conversations are come to being, as follow, three types are necessarily. First, one is enlightenments and the other is confusions. Second, one is confusions and the other is enlightenments. Third, both are enlightenments. If not, zen-conversations is not come to being. Here, we advocate with the settlement and application of seon conversations. It is necessary in modern times about seon conversations. So, this essay is an attempt to settlement the relation enlightenment and of the Buddhist canon or seon-analects. In conclusion, we can say that enlightenment and of the Buddhist canon or seon-analects is the relation of mutual aid.

선수행의 궁극적인 목적은 깨침이다. 깨침은 지혜를 수반한다. 그 지혜는 자비를 속성으로 한다. 그래서 부처의 자비는 중생과 함께 한다. 그런데 그와 같은 선을 정의할 경우 일반적으로 선의 종지를 불립문자 교외별전 직지인심 견성성불이라는 어구로 표현한다. 이것은 자내증의 깨침인 선과 그것을 구체적으로 표현하는 언어문자의 관계성을 보여준 말이다. 곧 부처님의 깨침은 깨침으로서의 가치가 있지만 그것이 중생한테 전승되기 위해서는 부득불 언어문자라는 방편에 의지하지 않으면 안되는 것을 말해준다. 나아가서 언어와 사유의 관계는 언어가 있기 때문에 생각이 있고, 생각이 있기 때문에 언어가 있다는 상관관계에 놓여 있다. 이것은 언어를 여읜 사고는 불가능하다는 것을 말한다. 이런 점에서 선은 언어로 드러나지 않으면 안된다. 때문에 수많은 선적이 출현하였고, 그 선적에 의하여 선이 정의되고 발전되며 구현되었다. 따라서 선경과 삼매경과 관경을 비롯하여 선종에서 형성된 선어록은 그대로 선의 산물이고 선의 창고이며 선의 정체이기도 하다. 따라서 본고는 이와 같은 선을 담고 있는 큰 그릇을 대장경이라는 범주와 관련하여 교학과 선의 상관관계에서 선이 어떻게 드러나고 전개되었는가를 고찰한 글이다.
