It is still difficult for “Korean for Academic Purpose(KAP) learner” who achieved the high level of Test of Proficiency in Korean (TOPIK) or have high proficiency in Korean language to compete other native Korean students in tertiary level education. This is because they are lack of relevant background knowledge and vocabulary about their degrees and the study of tertiary level does not require causal dialogue which they used to study for Korean language. In order to solve this problem, new Korean education policy for overseas students should be provided. Therefore, this study analyzes the problems of current Korean language education and TOPIK and suggests the improvements of Korean language education and TOPIK for better KAP. (expecting foreign students can successfully complete their advanced studies and more KAP students join to this new policy.)

학문 목적 한국어 학습자들은 일상생활에서 고급 수준의 한국어를 구사하거나 혹은 대학의 외국인 입학 전형에서 요구하는 한국어능력시험에서 고급 정도의 상위 급수에 합격했다 하더라도 대학에 진학하여 다른 한국인 학습자들과 경쟁하며 공부하기에는 여러 가지 어려움이 따른다. 이것은 그들이 공부해온 일상생활의 회화가 아닌 생소한 전공 어휘와 내용이 대학수업의 주 내용인데다가 관련 배경 지식이 부족하기 때문이다. 이러한 문제를 해결하기 위해서는 학문 목적 학습자를 위한 한국어 교육 방안이 마련되어야 한다. 따라서 본 논문에서는 학문 목적 한국어 학습자의 정착 비율을 높이고 그들이 성공적으로 유학생활을 마칠 수 있도록 기존 한국어교육과 한국어능력시험의 문제점을 분석하고 학문 목적 한국어 능력 향상을 위한 한국어교육과 한국어능력시험의 개선방향에 대하여 제안하였다.
