This thesis was written for the purpose of understanding the meaning and the practical theory on the Confucian benevolence. And I worked for the searching of the contribution elements in our modern human society. Confucius emphasized the importance of having a decent living. The main content is as follows. ① ‘If the will be set on virtue, there will be no practice of wickedness.’ ② ‘To subdue one’s self and return to propriety, is perfect virtue.' ③ 'Not to do others as you would not wish done to yourself.' ④ 'Benevolence is to love all men.' ⑤ 'The practice elements of perfect virtue are gravity, generosity of soul, sincerity, earnestness, kindness.' ⑥ 'Benevolence is the characteristic element of humanity.' Therefore, the man of virtue will not seek to live at the expense of injuring the his virtue. He will even sacrifice their lives to preserve their virtue complete. In this way, the practice of perfect virtue is from a man himself. The modern significance on the theory of Confucian benevolence is as follows. In the point of individual side, the character of a man is to be cultivated by his treading in the ways of duty. and the treading those ways of duty is to be cultivated by the cherishing of benevolence. And in the point of social side, the man of perfect virtue, wishing to be established himself, seeks also to establish others. I think that the practice of perfect virtue is very important to establish the peaceful coexistence in our every day life.
