This paper will demonstrate how to understand the relationship between postmodern media literacy and Christian education in reading the animation, Toy Story. Nowadays, we are faced with the New Media Era which includes digital media, the Internet, SNS, and Smart-phones such as the 4G LTE(4 Generation Long Term Evolution). I believe that the task of Christian education is related to how we realize the importance of media literacy and interpret many media productions such as movies, animation, and so on. First, this paper will suggest the significance of postmodern media literacy and cultural cognitive constructivism. Secondly, it is my contention that we explore and understand human beings in terms of cognitive science and the psychological aspects such as the feelings of loss, denial, negotiation and acceptance learnt from the animation, Toy Story . Toy Story trilogy will be my main example since many children around the world have watched and grow up with this animation and have felt various emotions from compassion to conflict over the last 15 years of the Toy Story production. Through Toy story, I examine the assumptions of the cultural interactions and cultural cognitive constructivism theories. Thirdly, this paper is an attempt for finding th possibility of encountering postmodern media literacy with Christian education. In this paper, I think that storytelling in Christian education, the Bible as well as ‘cultural contents’ of the media era is not only the old way of teaching but also a way of the origin of digital cultural society. In this sense, Christian educators must learn how to deal with the media by reconsidering the meaning of imagination by analyzing the cultural cognitive constructivism from the animation, Toy Story . In the New Media era, it is necessary that Christian educators have to learn how to utilize media literacy due to postmodern perspective. Hopefully, this paper proposes the task of Christian educators for the postmodern media literacy in using digital media productions such as animation.

이 논문은 애니메이션 󰡔토이 스토리󰡕(Toy Story)의 스토리텔링을 중심으로 포스트모던 미디어 교육과 기독교교육의 조우의 가능성을 살펴볼 것이다. 오늘날 우리는 소위 뉴 미 디어 시대－디지털 미디어 문화, 인터넷, 소셜 네트워크, 제 4세대 통신 스마트폰 문화시 대－를 직면하고 있다. 인류 문명은 문자의 발명으로부터 시작해서 근대를 거쳐 인쇄술의 발달로 인해 인간지식 은 위력을 갖추고 과학이란 도구와 함께 산업혁명은 시작되었다. 21세기는 컴퓨터의 시대로 서 정보기술 혹은 정보혁명과 더불어 인간의 삶과 문화 양식 전체가 변화되고 있다. 시대에 따라 차이는 있으나 인간의 모습과 인간지식은 새로운 이미지(image)를 입고 재생되고 있다. 이미지는 단지 시각적인 문제가 아니라 우리가 존재하는 사회나 문화에 의해 형성된 것이다. 이미지의 작동은 연속적인 인간문화의 산물이며, 이미지와 이미지 언어는 다양한 분야의 참여를 이끌어 낸다. 영상문화 시대를 시각적 이미지의 강조와 확산으로 본다면, 시각적 이미지가 우리 생활양식과 의사소통에서 중요한 부분이다. 이러한 의사소통의 시대적 변화 속에서 연구자는 본 논문에서 첫째로 포스트모던 영상 미디어 문화 읽기의 중요성과 문화 인지적 구성주의를 검토하겠다. 둘째, 포스트모던 영상 미디어 문화 읽기를 통하여 애니메이션 󰡔토이 스토리󰡕의 스토리텔링에 대한 기독교교육의 이해를 살펴보겠다. 셋째, 포스트모던 미디어 교육의 의의를 살펴보고 포스트모던 미디어 문화 읽기와 기독교교육의 조우의 가능성과 방향성을 제시할 것이다.
