In order for schools to effectively carry out their education welfare role, which provides students with learning opportunities to cultivate their full potential overcoming any risk of educational alienation, schools are required to improve their education welfare capacity. For helping schools to find the better approach, this study inquired into the perspective of 'school as education welfare community'.
Firstly, the study discussed on the issues of the relationship between school and education welfare and schools' education welfare capacity on the basis of preceding discourses on the concept, tasks, and the principles of education welfare.
Secondly, the study reviewed the view of school as a community including the theory of community of practice(CoP) initiated by Wenger.
Thirdly, integrating the two perspectives: school as a center for education welfare and school as a community, a new perspective of school as education welfare community was proposed and its meaning and elements were searched for.
Lastly, conditions and requirements for constructing education welfare community in schools were discussed and suggested.

학생의 교육소외를 해소하고 잠재역량을 최대한으로 개발할 수 있는 학습기회를 주기 위한 교육복지 기능을 학교가 효과적으로 수행하기 위해서는 학교의 총체적인 교육복지역량이 신장되어야 하는 바, 본 연구에서는 이를 위한 하나의 접근법으로 학교를 교육복지공동체로 보는 관점을 탐색하였다.
첫째, 교육복지의 개념과 과제, 원리 등에 대한 논의를 바탕으로 학교와 교육복지의 관계, 학교의 교육복지역량의 내용을 검토하고, 둘째, 실천공동체를 포함하여 학교에 대한 공동체적 관점을 고찰하였다. 셋째로 교육복지 관점과 학교공동체 관점에 대한 논의를 기초로 학교에 대한 ‘교육복지공동체 관점’의 의의를 논하고 그 요건을 추출하였으며, 끝으로 학교 교육복지공동체를 구현하는데 필요한 방안을 모색하였다.
