Recently Korea is experiencing a wide application of 'Therapeutic Interventions for Criminals', especially for sex offenders. Treatment in custody for psychosexually disordered offenders, introduction of chemical castration order and treatment program order to sex offenders are representatives of this intervention program. Treatment programs for criminals have already been conducted as a main program for correctional treatment or community treatment. In particular, attendance center order has been applied frequently as a means of Therapeutic Intervention for those who undergo treatments for drug abusers, alcoholics, sex offenders, domestic violence criminals and for those who receive education to be law-abiding drivers. Rehabilitative programs for Prostitution offenders (so called John School Program) can also be classified as Therapeutic Intervention in a broad sense, as well as entrusted counselling, entrusted treatment, and attendance center order system for domestic violence criminals. Treatment in custody and therapeutic protection are also main programs of Therapeutic Intervention. New Criminal Bill which was recently submitted to parliament for approval also adopts 'Order to Therapeutic Treatment' as a requirement for probation. When investigating its application by criminal type, Therapeutic Intervention has been rapidly adopted for sex offenders compared to drug addicted criminals because of high social demands for active coping with sex offenders whose crimes cause incurably huge damages. Despite of large benefits of Therapeutic Intervention for sex offenders, particular attention should be paid to the caution that excessive governmental intervention can increase the probability of negative side effects. Therefore, it is recommended that moderate level should be kept in the application of Therapeutic Intervention, taking its limitations into considerations. Moreover, it became a matter of great significance to develop moderate - level treatment programs to apply for drug addicted criminals, drunk drivers, domestic violence criminals, and prostitution offenders.

최근 우리나라에서 ‘범죄인에 대한 치료적 개입’의 확대정책은 주로 성폭력범죄자에 대한 치료적 개입으로 나타나고 있다. 예컨대 정신성적 장애자에 대한 치료감호, 성충동 억제를 위한 약물치료명령의 도입, 성폭력 치료프로그램 이수명령 병과규정의 도입을 들 수 있다. 범죄인에 대한 치료 프로그램은 사회내처우의 주요 내용이 되었으며, 특히 수강명령은 약물치료, 알코올치료, 성폭력치료, 가정폭력치료, 준법운전교육 등의 치료적 개입을 위한 수단으로 활용되고 있다. 성구매자 재범방지교육(존-스쿨)제도, 가정폭력사범에 대한 보호처분으로 부과되는 상담위탁이나 치료위탁, 약물중독사범에 대한 치료감호나 치료보호 등도 치료적 개입의 예라고 할 수 있다. 최근 국회에 제출된 형법개정안은 집행유예의 조건으로 ‘치료명령’을 도입하려고 하고 있다. 범죄자 유형별로 살펴보면, 약물중독사범에 비하여 성폭력범죄자에 대한 치료적 개입이 급속하게 확대되어 왔다. 그 이유는 성폭력범죄의 피해가 너무 크기 때문에 사회적으로 성폭력범죄자에 대한 적극적인 대처가 요구되었기 때문이다. 성폭력범죄자에 대한 치료적 개입의 효용성은 높다고 볼 수 있으나, 국가의 지나친 개입은 부작용을 일으킬 수도 있다는 점을 주의할 필요가 있다. 개입사법의 한계를 인식한 상태에서의 절제된 치료적 개입이 필요하다. 약물중독사범, 음주운전 교통사범, 가정폭력범죄자, 성구매자에 대한 치료적 개입에 대한 적절한 치료 프로그램의 개발도 중요해졌다.
