This research aims to examine the performing arts of Yeo Won Moo (女圓舞; female circle dance) based on literatures and testimonies of recipients and initiates and conduct detailed research into the display, formation, costume, and beat of Yeowonmoo performed in Gyeongsan Jain Danoje. As a result, this study has examined that Yeowonmoo has various values including historic, artistic, and social values as described below. Yeowonmoo which was performed by general Han, a real man, with military tactics in order to lead the villagers and defeat Japanese invaders has clearer purpose and procedures of dancing than other kinds of Won Moo (圓舞; circle dance). And the use of formation and ceremonial coronets for Won Moo is crucial historic data. In other words, as being transmitted as a play or dance combined with the historic incident, Yeowonmoo has come to have significant historic values to deliver and arouse historic facts. From Yeowonmoo, artistic value as performing culture can be found with the form of dance, display, and various props used in it. In Yeowonmoo, the unity of the community was crucial from its origin. Yeowonmoo could not exist without the villagers’ participation, and such community consciousness became the driving force to transmit Yeowonmoo as the traditional culture of a region with long history. Thereupon, this researcher hopes that Yeowonmoo will be preserved and transmitted as a folk dance and expects that Yeowonmoo with the artistry of our dance will be re-created as lively culture beyond geographical limitations.

본 연구는 여원무 연희에 대한 내용을 문헌 기록과 이수자, 전수자들의 증언을 통하여 살펴보고 경산자인단오제안에서 추어지는 여원무의 춤사위와 대형, 복식, 장단을 세밀히 조사하여 역사적, 예술적, 사회적 가치로 나누어 다양한 가치를 지니고 있음을 살펴보았다. 실존 인물인 한장군이 군사적 전술로 주민들을 이끌어 왜구를 물리치기 위한 목적으로 행해진 여원무는 다른 원무(圓舞)들 보다 춤의 진행과 목적이 명확하고, 원무의 대형이나 춤의 형태, 춤사위, 화관 등의 사용에서 중요한 역사적 가치와 예술적 가치를 발견할 수 있다. 더불어 전통문화의 전승통로로써 지역문화축제의 활성화를 위한 사회적 가치를 지니는데, 여원무는 그 기원에서부터 공동체의 화합이 중요했다. 주민들의 참여 없이는 여원무가 존재하지 않았을 것이고, 그러한 공동체 의식이 여원무가 지역의 전통문화로서 오랜 역사를 가지고 전승되는데 원동력이 되었다. 이에 연구자는 여원무가 민속춤으로서 보존되고 전승되어지기를 바라며, 우리 춤의 예술성을 보여주는 여원무가 지역을 넘어 살아 있는 문화로 재창조 될 것으로 본다.
