Korea needs to have more effective institutional framework through the development of feasibility evaluation system models and the analysis of perception attitudes of related parties, on the basis of the philosophy and cost/benefit analysis of CPTED, which has already presented the basic guideline in many new city construction and urban revival fields. And, the policy alternatives and legal system should be arranged for the active discussion and effective implementation, as the supplementary measures for the roles and functions of limited criminal, judiciary institutions.
The limitations of this study are as follows:
First, the measurement of crime fears for the purpose of research was rather difficult due to the conceptual complexity. So, the measurement was limited to the scope of general fears and specific crime damage fears.
Second, the subject sample of the study was not selected among the whole residents of Pangyo New City, because of the actual conditions. Thus, the study has the limitation of generalization that the subjects' perception and attitude are not fully represented.
Third, the findings of the study showed the significance of CPTED perception, crime damage experience, and gender as the factors affecting the crime fears. This cause and effect relationship may have the problem of common method variance, in that the same questionnaire respondents had provided all the information regarding causes and effects. However, this study has its unique features of measurement and verification of CPTED variable among several variables which are considered to influence crime fears on the study subjects residing in the CPTED-applied city center.

이 연구는 신도시 거주민을 대상으로 경찰의 범죄예방활동에 대한 인식도가 구체적 범죄의 두려움(폭행피해에 대한 두려움, 절도'피해에 대한 두려움, 강도피해에 대한 두려움)에 영향을 미치는지 분석하였다.
연구의 결과 경찰의 범죄예방활동에 대한 통상적인 정보를 인지하고 있는 수준이 낮을수록 구체적 범죄의 두려움의 수준이 증가함을 제시하고 있으며, 이는 특히 최근 경찰의 범죄예방활동 기법 중의 하나인 CPTED 기법을 적용한 지역의 결과라는 점에서 그 특징이 있다.
이는 향후 경찰의 범죄예방활동 중 CPTED에 대한 인식의 중요성을 보여주는 연구로서 그 의의가 있다 할 수 있다. 연구결과를 통해 구체적 범죄의 두려움에 대한 경찰의 범죄예방활동 기법인 CPTED를 중심으로 활용방안을 제시하면 다음과 같다.
CPTED에 대한 통상적인 정보전달의 활성화와 홍보를 통해 시민들의 안전도에 대한 인식을 향상시킴으로써 범죄의 피해를 줄이고 이를 통해 폭행피해의 두려움을 감소시켜 지역주민 간에 안전에 대한 정보를 공유시킬 필요가 있다. 또한 CPTED의 다양한 변화를 도모하여 아파트와 같은 인구밀집지역을 벗어나 교외지역의 폭행피해에 대한 두려움을 감소시키고 시민들의 거주지에 대한 신뢰감을 높일 필요가 있다.
