The Daebonggi 大鳳記 held in the Sogang University library is a different version of the Sodaeseongjeon 소대성전. It was recorded in literary Chinese (hanmun) by an anonymous person. While it contains diverse aspects as can be found in many different versions, these aspects are mostly related to the xylographic version of Jeonju. This novel seems to have expanded the xylographic version of Jeonju. Although it is divided by chapter, yet it has no other features of a dividing style (hoejang che 回章體). The last chapter of the Daebonggi has it's own narrative structure. It contains a story of Sodaeseong 소대성 who brought the severe drought to an end, thereby recovering his original body, namely the dragon king. The story thus shows a syncretic trend of Confucianism and Taoism, and this is the original aspect of the Sodaeseongjeon. It is thought that the Daebonggi was composed in the late 19th century to the early 20th century. On the basis of the textual evidence of the Daebonggi and from the comments of Lee Bo-sang 李輔相 who translated the Honggildongjeon 홍길동전, we may assume that the novel as a genre was socially acknowledged and that hanmun-based intellectuals appreciated its value in that period.

서강대학교 도서관에 소장되어 있는 <大鳳記>는 한문으로 기록된 <소대성전>으로서, 학계에 처음 소개되는 이본이다. <대봉기>에는 경판본과 완판본의 성향이 혼재되어 있는데, 아직 확정할 수는 없으나 이전 이본들을 보고 후대에 취합하면서 부연한 것으로 보인다. 장편 분량이라서 그런지 回章을 구별하고 제목을 붙여 회장체로 구성하였는데 몇몇 부분에서 비평적 또는 감상적 언급을 하는 것 이외에 여타 회장체의 특성을 구현하지는 않았다. 마지막 회인 12회의 경우는 한글본과는 다른 특유의 내용을 담고 있다. 소대성이 왕으로 책봉된 이후에 천자의 나라에 가뭄이 들게 된다고 하여 문제를 다시 설정하고 이 문제의 해결 과정을 통해 소대성은 본래 모습인 용왕으로 복귀한다고 하였다. 여기에 유교와 仙道가 복합되어 있는데 이는 <소대성전> 본래의 모습이므로 작품 성격에 맞게 부연하였다고 평가할 수 있다. <대봉기>는 19세기 후반에서 20세기 초반에 찬술된 것으로 추측할 수 있는데, 이 시기에 소설이 한역되었다는 것은 소설이 그만큼 사회적 공인을 얻어 한문 식자층까지 소설을 인정하게 되었음을 보여준다.
