This paper investigates the differences in translation style appeared in Wolinseokbo(月印釋譜)(1459) Vol. 18 and Beophwagyeongeonhae(法華經諺解)(1463) Vol. 6 and Vol. 7, which were both based on Myobeopyeonhwakyeong(妙法蓮華經), in terms of liberal translation and literal translation. In the analysis of comparing both texts based on the original Chinese characters and word types shown in Beophwagyeongeonhae, it was found that except one case where the same Chinese characters in the original text are liberally translated in Beophwagyeongeonhae and literally translated in Wolinseokbo, Wolinseokbo predominantly displayed liberal translation and Beophwagyeongeonhae predominantly displayed literal translation. It seems that this stylistic difference is due to (a) the tradition of Chaja(borrowed character) translation, (b) systematic aspects that source text and the eonhae text were written down together, and (c) attitude of how an eonhae user perceived the source text and translated Chinese characters.

본고는『妙法蓮華經』을 동일 저본으로 하고 있는 『月印釋譜』(1459)卷 十八과 『法華經諺解』(1463)卷 六, 卷 七을 대상으로 하여 意譯과 直譯을 중심으로 두 문헌 간에 나타나는 飜譯 樣相의 차이를 밝히는 데 그 목적이 있다. 본고에서는 두 문헌에 나타나는 意譯과 直譯을 中心으로 한 飜譯 樣相에 대해 동일 원문 한자에 대한 『法華經諺解』에서의 번역을 기준으로 하여 단어 유형별로 나누어 대비해 보았다. 두 문헌을 대비해 보면 동일 원문의 한자에 대하여 『法華經諺解』에서는 意譯되고 『月印釋譜』에서는 直譯되는 한 예만 제외하고는 대체로 『月印釋譜󰡕에서는 意譯되고 『法華經諺解』에서는 直譯되고 있음을 알 수 있다. 두 문헌 간에 나타나는 意譯과 直譯이라는 飜譯 樣相의 차이는 借字에 의한 번역의 전통, 원문과 그에 대한 언해문이 나란히 실리게 되는 體裁 上의 특징 그리고 언해자의 원전에 대한 이해 차이와 원문의 한자를 번역하는 태도 등에 기인한 것으로 파악된다.
