The Psalter occupies a distinctive position in the Scripture. It also takes the high praise and is extensively use in the church. But, we are in danger of losing it in our church. Instead, it is mostly used for the hospital ministry and the home visiting, not for the preaching or teaching. Even though it is occasionally preached, most of them belong to moralizing or allegorizing or arbitrary typologizing. In fact, the interpretation of the Psalms is not easy. The understanding of the Psalms involves every method used in biblical study and draws from a wide background of ancient literature as well. In this paper, I will suggest some theological and literary characteristics of the Psalms and show some principles of interpretation with several perspectives of contemporary Psalms study. As a result we can catch some clues for the teaching and preaching of the Psalms.

시편은 성경에서 독특한 위치를 차지하고 있다. 또한 시편은 많은 찬사를 받고 있고, 교회 안에서도 폭넓게 활용되고 있다. 하지만, 시편은 오늘날 교회에서 거의 가르쳐지지 않고 설교되지 않고 있다. 대신 병원을 방문하거나 어려움을 당하는 가정을 심방할 때 주로 사용되어지고 있을 뿐이다. 또한 어쩌다가 설교된다고 할지라도 도덕적 설교, 영해 또는 모형론화의 우를 범하고 있다. 물론 시편의 해석과 설교가 쉬운 것은 아니다.
시편의 설교를 위해서는 시편의 양식적, 신학적, 문학적 특징에 대한 이해가 필요하고 바른 접근방식이 필요하다. 본고에서 필자는 시편 해석과 설교를 시편의 특징들, 그리고 해석을 위한 몇 가지 원리들을 고찰할 것이다. 그 결과로서 필자는 시편의 가르침과 설교를 위한 지침들을 제시할 것이다.
