The aim of this study is to analyze the two units, in elementary school music textbook for the 3rd-4th grdes effectively improves the ability of children’ understanding of music and cultures of other countries, in accordance with the text book's songs in an main point of the 2007 Revised Curriculum, ‘n Acceptance of Various Musical Cultures.’
The results are as follows: In the musictextbook for the 3rd-4rth grades in elementary school the proportion of songs related to world music is 8.6%, which indicates that, its weight is distinctively low. The activity elements in relation to world music are completely constituted of singing activities in which there is no musical piece related to creating, playing, and listening. In the contextual elements, the explanation of the contents of a song in a different country is too brief, and it is written in Korean according to Korean pronunciation of the original language of the song and translated into Korean. In the elements of it a way of life, there are songs with a educational course of making it familiar with oneself and doing some folk games and dances in case of the 3rd grade textbook and in case of the 4th there are songs in doing so.

본 연구는 2007년 개정 음악과 교육과정의 개정 중점 사항인 세계 음악 문화에 대한 이해력 증진 취지를 잘 구현하고 있는지를 파악하기 위해 초등 3, 4학년 음악교과서 및 교사용 지도서의 세계음악 이해 단원을 분석 대상으로 하여 전체 악곡에서 세계음악이 차지하는 비중과 그 내용 특성을 살펴보았다. 내용 특성은 선행연구들의 학습모형을 토대로 이해 및 활동 요소, 맥락적 요소, 생활화 요소들로 구분하여 분석하고 그 결과를 통해 음악 교육적 시사점을 언급하였다. 전반적으로 세계음악 이해 단원에 제시된 이해및 활동요소는 가창활동 위주의 악곡 제시수준에 한정되어 있어서 다른 활동영역과의 통합 학습을 위한 재구성이 필요하다. 맥락적 요소는 해당국가의 참고자료에 대한 현장에서의 활용성에 초점을 두고 제시해야하며, 생활화 요소는 주로 민속 놀이(춤)활동을 통한 다른 나라 문화에 관심 갖기로써 내면화하고 있다. 음악의 생활화 관점에서 연계성은 있지만 이에 대한 배경지식과 통합적 활동내용들에 대한 충분한 안내가 부족하여 현장에서 교재 연구 및 재구성에 대한 어려움을 갖게 한다.
