This thesis study the theory of Dasan(Jeong, Yak-yong)'s self-cultivation. The theory of Dasan's self-cultivation is different from Zhuxi's theory. Actually, Dasan criticize neo-confucian's theory of self-cultivation, his critical point is neo-confucian's mind-concentrated trend which is rarely related human's substantial life. So Dasan emphasis the self-cultivation is always related and adopted in human's substantial life, namely, he assert the self-cultivation must help growing meaningful personality in the life. Dasan establish the theory of self-cultivation that concentrated substantial life. He assert that the methods of self-cultivation related human's substantial life, so his viewpoint can be summarize that the self-reflection are inquiring to moral norm, following to nature, cultivating mind. In the modern moral education, the attribution of Dasan' theory has important meaning. That is the education of self-cultivation and devotion spirit for other people must be strengthened, and reflective considerate & practice related human's substantial life must be strengthened in the moral education.

다산의 수양론에서 聖人은 수양의 궁극적인 목적으로 상정되어 있는데, 이는 일관되게 仁을 구현할 수있는 실천 능력의 소유자를 의미한다. 다산은 인간이 성인이 되고, 仁을 온전히 실천할 수 있게 되는 것은 行事를 통한 수양으로 가능하다는 입장을 취하는데, ‘行事的수양’은 ‘실제적인 삶의 도덕적 상황에서 가치를 실천하는 수양’을 의미한다. 이는 삶의 문제를 초월하여 이루어지는 內省的인 수양이 아니라 생활 중에 직면하는 도덕적 문제 사태에서 가치와 도리를 각성하고 실천하는 수양을 의미한다. 다산은 행사적 수양론의 입장에서 愼獨을 動時의 수양이라고 강조하며, 誠意나 敬도 인간관계의 도리와 규범을 적극적으로 실천하는 행사적 수양이라고 간주한다. 또한 다산은 마음을 다스리는 治心의 수양이나 성을 따르는 率性의 수양도 行事를 중심으로 이루어져야 한다고 주장하는데, 그의 행사적 수양은 治人安
人의 의미까지 포괄하고 있다. 다산의 수양론은 현대 도덕교육의 방향 모색에 있어서도 중요한 시사점을 제공하고 있다. 그것은 도덕 교육에서 윤리적 주체의 양성을 위한 실천적 수양교육과 다른 사람의 가치 실현을 위해 노력하는 安人的 수양교육이 중시되어야 한다는 것이다. 그리고 사회의 다양한 도덕적 문제 상황에 직면하여 도덕적 가치와 도리를 성찰하고 이를 능동적으로 실천하는 ‘행사적 성찰과 실’의 수양이 강조되어야 한다는 것이다.
