Leisure activities of the revised curriculum'2007 in physical education division include physical activities which are outdoor activities and adventure activities. The curriculum consists of 'Nature experience-based leisure activities' such as mountain climbing and camping, and of 'Outdoor-based leisure activities', which are primarily for providing opportunities for understanding and experiencing community spirits and nature. Especially leisure activities are focused on what students actively participate in physical activities and something practical for daily life. However, as shown in the development for revised curriculum, outdoor activities and adventure activities are insufficient unlike many advanced countries which actively practice those activities. For this reason, author of this paper participated in 'Nature experience - based' outdoor education activities in mountain village school, which are supposed to give meaning for leisure activities. Through direct participation, the author is going to understand characteristics of mountain village school program and to find the meaning for its operation. Nature experience - based outdoor activities at mountain village school is a field for experiencing environment and ecology of International Youth Camp in which young people from more than 20 countries all over the world are gathering from 2006 to 2009 at Korean Committee for UNESCO. The characteristics for Nature experience - based outdoor activities at mountain village school are following: First, its premise is voluntary by which practice is shown at life. Second, it has a promotion which lets participants have interest and time for thinking. Third, it focuses on local and community. Through this study, it is expected that leisure activities include various areas and propose various programs.

2007년 개정 체육과 교육과정의 여가활동 영역에는 야외활동 및 모험활동에 해당하는 신체활동들이 포함되어 있다. 이 내용에는 등산, 캠핑 등 ‘자연 체험형 여가활동’과 ‘야외 생활형 여가활동’으로 구분하여, 공동체의식 및 자연을 이해하고 체험할 수 있는 기회를 제공하는 것이 주요내용이다. 특히, 여가활동은 신체활동에 적극적으로 참여하고, 생활에 실천할 수 있는 것에 초점을 두고 있다. 하지만 개정 체육과 교육과정 개발과정에서도 말하듯이, 우리나라는 야외활동이나 모험활동을 적극적으로 실천하는 선진국과는 달리 미흡한 실정이다. 이에 본 연구에서는 국가수준의 체육과 교육과정에서 강조하는 여가활동 중 ‘자연 체험형’ 여가활동의 시사점을 제공할 수 있는 산골학교의 야외교육 프로그램을 분석하였다. 직접참여를 통해 산골학교 야외교육 활동 프로그램의 특징을 이해하고, 그 의미를 탐색하고자 한다. 산골학교는 UNESCO한국위원회에서도2006년부터 2009년까지 국제청년들이 환경과 생태를 체험하기 위해 방문한 야외교육 활동의 현장이다. 산골학교의 야외교육 활동 프로그램의 특징은 다음과 같다. 실천성을 삶에 모습에서 보여주고, 자발성을 전제로 진행한다. 참가자들에게 흥미와 생각할 시간을 갖도록 배려하는 촉진성을 가지고 있다. 본 연구를 통해 여가활동 영역의 구체적인 내용들을 구성하고, 다양한 프로그램을 제시하는 데 시사점을 제공할 수 있을 것이다.
