This paper explores the nature of protestant worship which all the church can agree with in the worship renewal phenomenon in the Church in Korea. Three motives or elements which led to study this subject of worship are the ecumenical issues, the matter of communication, and the matter of participation. With such a movement many catch praises, like dynamic worship, touched worship, happy worship, festival worship, worship in spirit and truth, have been appeared, which all of them have the purpose of restoration of the nature of worship. In this paper the term 'nature' is used in the meaning of principle, standard, understanding, or spiritualty. This paper begins with the methodology of study of worship, that is, liturgics, liturgical theology, theologies of worship, and doxological worship to seek the common tasks in the study of worship. The four elements of church in Nicene Creed, 'one holy catholic apostolic', give the insights to categorize the nature of worship through liturgical adaptation, such as global worship which holds koinonia as one body of Christ, worship which has koinonia between the Holy Spirit and congregation, worship leading the renovation through communicating with the world, worship which adore to the Trinity for the gospel. With these the nature of christian worship includes the theological concepts as follows: God's calling(sovereignty, God's covenant people, presence of the Holy Spirit(epiclesis), the salvanic event of Christ-the Word and Sacrament, pre-showing the new heaven and earth(eschatology), doxology through unity and maturity as the body of Christ.

이 논문은 한국 개신교회의 다양한 예배 모습 상황에서 모든 교회가 공감할 수 있는 예배 본질을 탐구한다. 20세기 후반의 예배 본질에 대한 논의를 가속화시킨 두 가지 동인은 교회 일치운동과 소통이다. 이러한 흐름에서 예배에 관한 표어들이 등장하였는데, 역동적인 예배, 감동적인 예배, 행복한 예배, 하나님이 기뻐하시는 예배, 신령과 진정으로 드리는 예배 등으로 이 모두가 예배 본질의 회복을 목표로 한다. 여기서 말하는 예배 본질은 예배 이해(understanding), 예배 원리(principle), 예배 정신(spirit), 예배 성격(nature), 예배 영성(spirituality) 또는 예배 표준(standard)과 구별 없이 사용된다. 친문화적인 현대교회 예배의 예배자들이 모두 공감할 수 있는 공통적 요소들을 찾기란 어려운 작업인데, 먼저 예배 이해의 차이를 가져온 다양한 예배 연구 방법을 먼저 살펴봄으로 예배에 있어서 공통의 과제와 목표들을 찾는다. 지난 반세기 동안에 예배 연구의 변화를 나타내는 용어를 열거하면 예전학(liturgics), 예전 신학(liturgical theology), 예배 신학(theology of worship), 그리고 송영 신학(doxological theology)다. 다양한 교회의 예배 속에서 일치 또는 코이노니아를 추구하기 위해서, 니케야 신조(325년)에 나타난 네 가지 교회의 요소, 즉 단일성(unity), 거룩성(holiness), 보편성(catholicity), 사도성(Apostolicity)은 중요하다. 이 요소를 예배에 적용하면, 그리스도의 한 몸으로 코이노니아를 이루는 세계교회 예배, 성령과 회중의 코이노니아를 이루는 예배, 세상과 소통하며 변혁을 이끄는 예배, 복음을 위해 삼위일체 하나님과 코이노니아를 이루는 예배로 해석된다. 이것과 함께 예배의 본질은 다음과 같은 신학적 개념을 포함한다. 즉, 하나님의 부르심(주권), 하나님 언약 백성, 성령의 임재 (Epiclesis), 그리스도의 구원사적 사건-말씀과 성례전 (kerygma and Eucharist), 새 창조를 미리 펼쳐 보임(Eschatology), 하나님께 영광 -그리스도 몸의 지체로서 일치와 성숙(Doxology-Grace)이다.
