It is said that Japanese ability has declined among university students. For freshmen, Tezukayama University has classes to improve their Japanese ability as university students. Among all of departments, since 2010, the Department of Business Administration has had a placement test when students start school and classes are decided based on the results. When I examined the results of the test, I found out that score discrepancies existed and students differed in the Japanese ability. Right answers for Chinese characters were more than expected, however, the more the level of difficulty rises, the more students who had a hard time writing and reading. Students wrongly recognized loanwords, basic grammar and expressions used in ordinary life. Moreover, it was clarified that there are lot of students who are insufficient, not only in the ability to read and comprehend sentences but also the ability to proof read. Therefore, classes had various approaches to improve student’s ability of Chinese characters, vocabulary, reading and comprehending and drawing sentences. Sadly, I could not find a remarkable improvement in 15 classes. But success was discovered in that students realized points which they did not notice before, and they started being conscious of the points. Students’ realization of the importance of being conscious by themselves and the happiness of studying will be my biggest topic in my further research of the development of students’ ability

大学生の国語力が低下していると言われている。帝塚山大学でも、1年生を対象に、大学生として必要な日本語力を高めるための授業が開講されている。そのうち、経営情報学部では2010年度から入学時に学力テストを行い、その結果を授業に反映させている。本論文では、国語の学力テストの結果から見ることのできる学生の現状と、国語力向上を目指した授業での取り組みについて述べる。テスト結果を見ると、得点にはばらつきがあり、学生の間に日本語力の隔たりがあることがわかる。漢字は予想よりは正解が多かったが、問題の難易度が上がると読み書きが困難になる学生が増える。日常でよく使用する外来語や、基本的な文法や表現も誤ったまま認識していること。また、文章読解力だけでなく、文章校正力が不十分な学生が多いこともテストから明らかになった。そこで、授業では、漢字、語彙、読解、文章作成の力をつけるためにさまざまな取り組みをおこなった。15回の授業では、目を見張るような進歩は残念ながら現れなかったが、学生がこれまで気づかなかったことに気づき、それを意識するようになったことは成果である。今後さらに学生の力を伸ばす方法を探究しつつ、自ら意識することの大切さと、学ぶよろこびを学生に気づかせることを最大の課題としたい。
