Vocational training is one of the ways to promote smooth rehabilitation and cut down on feasibility of repeated offense of prison inmates. Keeping pace with the changing social structure, the convicts have become older in their age and higher educational background. It is appeared that the largest portion of prison inmates takes part in construction and mechanical areas job training. The measures to lessen the dropout rate, which is 20% more or less now, is necessary. The rate of business opening · employment is about 30%, re-imprisonment is 7.5.%, lower than one of convicts who had not receive job training in prison, proves the effectivity of job training. We should develop the items of vocational programs in consideration of personality of trainees and trend of labor market together. The prisoners completes training course shall be necessarily involved in correctional social work and be under continuous supervision linked with consulting service of professional social worker as to the prisoners adapt themselves in society through successful employment.

수형자들이 출소 후 원활한 사회복귀와 재범가능성을 낮추기 위한 방법 중 하나가 직업훈련이다. 사회구조의 변화와 함께 수용자의 특성도 고령화, 고학력화 되어가고 있으며 수형자들은 건축과 기계분야 직종의 직업훈련에 가장 많이 참여하는 것으로 나타났다. 중도탈락률은 20% 안쪽인데 이를 감소시키기 위한 노력이 필요하다. 직업훈련 이수자의 창업·취업률은 30% 내외이며, 재복역률은 7.5%로 직업훈련을 이수하지 않은 사람들보다 낮게 나타나 그 효과성이 입증되고 있다. 수형자 특성과 노동시장의 흐름을 고려한 직업훈련 직종의 개발이 필요하며 직업훈련을 이수한 수형자는 교도작업과의 연계가 있어야 하며 전문성을 갖춘 교정사회복지사와의 상담을 통해 출소 후에도 취업에 성공할 수 있는 지속적인 관리가 필요하다.
