Industrialization and development of science and technology today are leading to diversification of culture. Fashion illustration is also changing, with a variety of creative activities relaying artistry and personal expression, to create an image of fashion as art. Fashion illustration also expresses the artist's personality and image to the public through various new techniques. The artistic value of fashion illustration has increased. From traditional representation to computer graphics and the selection of new materials and techniques, development of distinctive expression techniques in expanding artistic categories increases visual impact. In the field of art, paper is recognized for its value as an independent form of artistic medium. Paper cut-out is a method of paper sculpting that uses paper as materials and cuts the paper using scissors or a knife to turn the two-dimensional form into a three-dimensional form of expression. Artists in the modern age are especially understanding and re-recognizing the values related to the paper cut-out technique, such as three-dimensionality, time and space. In this study, floral motifs were used on the legs, a part of the human body with curves and movement, to create a unique method of expression that breaks away from two-dimensional techniques based on paper and the paper cut-out technique. The significance of the study is in creating a new world of formative expression by developing a fashion illustration method that uses new techniques and thus increasing the value of fashion illustration.

오늘날은 산업화와 과학기술의 발달로 문화가 다변화되고 있다. 패션 일러스트레이션도 더불어 다양한 변화로 하나의 창조활동으로 예술성을 전달하고 패션의 이미지를 창출하는 표현 예술분야로 발전하고 있다. 빠르게 변하는 패션의 방향성에 초점을 두고 표현의 자율성과 독자적인 표현으로 발전시켜 패션 일러스트레이션의 기능적, 예술적 가치를 공유하고 있다. 또한 패션 일러스트레이션은 작가의 개성 표현과 이미지를 대중에게 전달하는 목적을 위해 다양한 표현기법을 등장시켰다. 그 예술적 가치가 높아짐에 따라 컴퓨터 그래픽과 전통적인 표현 기법도 새로운 재료의 선택과 시각적 효과를 높일 수 있는 특색 있는 표현 기법의 개발을 통해 하나의 조형 활동으로 예술적 범주를 넓혀 가고 있다. 일상과 밀접한 종이는 자연스럽게 인간의 삶에 스며들어 있고 형태의 변형이 자유롭고 쉽게 다룰 수 있다. 예술 분야에서도 종이는 예술표현의 매체로 독자적인 조형 형태를 갖추고 그 가치를 발휘하고 있다. 이에 종이조형기법의 한 분야인 페이퍼 컷 아웃은 종이를 재료로 가위나 칼로 종이를 오려내 원하는 평면적 조형을 입체적 조형으로까지 표현이 가능한 기법이다. 특히 근대에 이르러 예술가들은 과거의 페이퍼 컷 아웃 기법의 입체성, 시간, 공간성등과 관련된 가치를 전면적으로 파악하고 재인식을 하고 있다. 본 연구에서는 꽃을 모티브로 인체에서 곡선미와 율동미가 있는 다리에 창의적이고 개성적인 표현을 위해 평면적 기법을 탈피하여 기본재료로 종이로 하여 페이퍼 컷 아웃 기법을 통해 새로운 표현 방법을 개발함으로써 패션 일러스트레이션의 독창적이고 창의적 기법으로 확립시켜 새로운 조형세계를 창출하고 그 예술적 가치를 높이는데 의의가 있다.
