It is a principle that pharmaceutical additives should be safe, nontoxic and inactive when it was used with active ingredients, therefore, the safety and LD50 might be the criteria point for the selection of pharmaceutical additives. However, there was no report to show the safety of pharmaceutical additives up to date. This report was to summarize the safety and LD50 based on the text of “Handbook of Pharmaceutical Excipients” and to database for researcher to select pharmaceutical additives, practically. Also, references corresponding the issue of pharmaceutical additives were labelled and the researchers could find the detail information by search. As well as, this work summarized the regulatory status of pharmaceutical additives in foreign.

의약품에 사용되어지는 첨가제는 기본적으로 인체에 무해하고 독성이 없으면서 의약품과 함께 사용 시 그 영향이 없어야 함을 전제조건으로 하고 있다. 따라서, 의약품 첨가제의 안전성 및 독성자료가 선택의 기준이 될 수 있는 것이다. 그런데, 현재까지 의약품 첨가제의 안전성에 대한 자료가 정리되어진 바 없어 Handbook of Pharmaceutical Excipients 의 자료를 기초로 하여 안전성 및 독성 자료를 정리하고, 데이터베이스화함으로써 연구자들에게 실무적으로 도움이 될 수 있도록 하고자 하였다. 또한 각각 해당되어지는 참고문헌을 표기함으로써 관련 연구자가 보다 상세한 자료를 조사할 수 있도록 하였을 뿐만 아니라, 의약품 첨가제의 외국에서의 규제현황을 정리함으로써 국내에서 사용 시 참조할 수 있도록 하였다.
