This article studies the growth of transnational corporations' power in the world economy over the recent years. Today, there is growing tendency in large number of scholars to takes the position, that transnational corporations are increasingly significant actor in the global economy. However, against this tendency, this articles tries to show that the nation-state is still the more appropriate unit of analysis for understanding the global process of world economy. To show this, this article goes on to review critically the two main variables(network structure of TNC and FDI) that has been often provided as basis for the growing power of transnational corporations. By analysing these two variables carefully, this article end up with the conclusion, that emphasizing the growing power of TNCs in recent years is somewhat overexaggerated argument.

이 글의 목적은 초국적 기업의 성장을 둘러싼 찬반논쟁에 대한 이론적 검토를 하는데 있다. 특히 이 글은 초국적 기업의 성장 메커니즘에 대한 이론적 분석을 통해 초국적 기업과 국민국가와의 관계를 정립하고 이를 바탕으로 초국적 기업이 오늘날 세계경제 및 국제관계에서 국민국가를 대체할 만큼 주요한 행위자로 부상하였는지 여부를 분석하는데 초점을 맞추고 있다. 이론적 검토를 위해 이 글은 초국적 기업의 성장 지표로 자주 제시되고 있는 초국적 기업 네트워크 조직 및 FDI 전략을 분석 대상으로 삼고 있다. 이에 대한 분석을 통해 이 글은 초국적 기업의 성장 및 힘의 증가를 강조하고 있는 사람들의 논리가 문제가 있음을 발견하고 이를 현실적인 네트워크 모델, 즉 GPN & GMPN으로 대체하고 있다. 그리고 GPN & GMPN에 대한 내용분석을 통해 초국적 기업의 성장논리가 다소 과장되어 있음을 주장한다.
