초록

영어
Until recently, rather than artistic accomplishment and value of animation, Korean animation has focused on public expansion and industrial added value and has not been able to overcome the influence of American and Japanese animation. Of course, as it is with all cultures, the process of assimilating to another culture is inevitable in certain stages. However, when we follow the historical track of Korean animation, it cannot be denied that deeply rooted mentality and awareness of cultural coloniality still remains. In order to overcome such mentality, two characteristics “universality” and “individuality” of Korean animation have been insisted upon. However, emphasis on “individuality” is only possible by returning to the utopia-like creativity that is pure and unpolluted from prior to colonization, and emphasis on “universality” has the problem of critiquing all forms of art with a single measuring stick, ignoring the differences and mentality that result from differences cultural, social, and ethnic differences. Thus, this study aims to present complete abandonment of recognition of cultural coloniality and individuality of Korean animation based on the Freud’s disavowal theory. The reason is because when it is recognized that Korean animation until today is a hybrid culture that was formed through the collision of two cultures of Western imperialism and a colonized state, colonial subordinate relationship can be overcome. Therefore, through recognition of the reality of colonized reality that ruled Korean animation in the past, and by painfully confessing that its history has been nothing more than imitations and followings, an opportunity for self examination and self reflection must be taken.
