The purpose of education helps student make their life better. Making life quality better quiet depends on good thinking. Especially moral thinking is very important to making better life, because the most problem of life includes the aspect of morals and values. Moral problem is so complex and multi-layered that moral thinking for solving problem is more important than other areas. It needs practical wisdom and reasonableness beyond rationality. Also, It needs multi-dimensional approach. So we have to strengthen moral thinking education. But it is hard, because the study and practice of moral thinking education are not made sufficiently. This essay starts on this awareness. So it makes a overall view on moral thinking as basic study for the study and practice of moral education in the future. Especially, it focuses on making that systematization and specification. It makes clear the character of moral thinking as reasonableness and multi-dimensional aspect, and makes organize the element of moral thinking and the type of moral inquiry. Also it tries to connect between the type of moral inquiry and teaching-learning model. And it proposes 'thinking skill' as the unit of moral thinking. Because meta-cognitive knowledge and practical experience about moral thinking get lead moral thinking education effectively.

교육은 학생들이 좀 더 양질의 삶을 살도록 돕는 행위이다. 양질의 삶을 사는데 있어서 잘 생각한다는 것은 매우 중요한 일이다. 특히 양질의 삶에 관한 한 도덕적인 사고력은 필수적이다. 우리들의 삶의 문제는 대개 규범이나 가치와 관련된 문제가 많기 때문이다. 더구나 그 문제들은 복잡하고 다층적이기 때문에 사고력이 더욱 요구된다. 실천적 지혜가 필요하며 합리성을 넘어서는 합당성이 지향되어야 한다. 다차원적 접근이 필요하다. 따라서 도덕적 사고력 교육은 학교현장에서 좀 더 강조되어야 한다. 하지만 그에 대한 이론적․실천적 내공이 쌓이지 못하여 어려움을 겪고 있다. 이 글은 이런 인식에서 출발하여 앞으로 도덕적 사고력 교육을 연구하고 실행하는데 필요한 기초 작업으로서 도덕적 사고의 전체적인 모습을 조망해보고자 하였다. 특히 도덕적 사고를 체계화하고 구체화하는데 중점을 두었다. 도덕적 사고의 특징을 밝히고 도덕적 사고의 하위개념과 그에 따른 도덕적 탐구의 유형을 연결하였다. 또한 각각의 탐구유형을 현재 소개된 인지적 영역의 도덕과 수업모형과 연결해 봄으로써 유형별 탐구의 모습을 좀 더 구체화시키면서 동시에 각 도덕과 수업모형의 핵심을 밝혀보고자 하였다. 나아가 각각의 탐구와 모형이 어떤 세부적인 사고로 이루어지는지를 살펴보면서 도덕적 사고의 하위단위로서의 사고기술 목록을 제안하였다. 이러한 메타인지적 지식이나 경험이 도덕적 사고력 교육을 효과적으로 이끌기 때문이다. 이것은 실험적 제안이다.
