In spite of the development of both science and medical science, the children having rare and incurable disease are fighting against such disease with difficulty because the cause of the disease is not examined yet. Due to the continuous treatment and uncured situation, the children got the psychological and physical external wounds. Their guardians also suffer from the mental problems occurred in the course of bringing up their children, which greatly affects the children who are fighting against the disease. As the children having rare and incurable disease are strictly restricted in view of its pathological characteristic. The actions suppressed as such result in a variety of emotional problems that are inherent to them. In addition, most of them suffer from difficulty in establishing their social development due to the long life struggling against the disease. Normally children take it easy to transfer their thoughts via the visual language of symbol rather than the imperfect language. Therefore, it is the intention of the present researcher to enhance their quality of life by inspiring the pride of the children having rare and/or incurable disease. For this, it would require that the psychological problems inherent to the children having rare and/or incurable disease should be recognized via the critical thing that is the clue to understanding thought, emotion and social development, etc. of such children through the mental cure by drawings, and the problem derived from the relationship with the guardians, especially the degree of depression and stress suffered by the mothers who are in direct charge of fostering them should be examined and the home affairs caused by such problems should be solved out, which will be beneficial for the establishment of the positive parent-child relationship. 의학과 과학의 발달에도 불구하고 아직까지 밝혀지지 못한 질병의 원인으로 인해 힘든 투병생활을 하고 있는 희귀·난치성 질 환 아동들은 끊임없는 치료와 완쾌되지 못하는 상태로 인해 정신적, 신체적으로 외상을 입고 있는 상태이다. 그들의 보호자들 도 양육으로 인한 심리적인 문제를 겪고 있으며, 이는 투병중인 아동들에게 많은 영향을 주고 있다. 희귀·난치 성 질환 아동 들은 질병의 특성상 철저하게 통제되어지고, 억압되어지는 행동들로 인해 여러 정서적 문제를 내재하고 있으 며, 더불어 오랜 투 병생활로 인해 사회성 형성에도 어려움을 겪고 있는 것이 대부분이다. 아동은 불완전한 언어보다 시각적 언어 나 상징으로 자 신의 생각을 전달하는 것을 수월하게 여긴다. 그러므로, 미술치료 활동을 통해 아동의 사고, 정서 및 사회성 발 달 등을 알 수 있는 중요한 단서를 얻어 희귀·난치성 질환 아동들이 가지고 있는 심리적 문제를 이해하고, 보호자와의 관계에 서 파생되어 지는 문제점, 특히 직접적인 양육을 담당하고 있는 어머니들이 겪고 있는 우울증 및 스트레스 정도를 파악하여 그로인해 발 생되는 가정문제를 해결함으로써, 긍정적인 부모-자녀 관계를 이루는데 도움이 되고, 희귀·난치성 질환아동들 의 자존감을 향상시켜 그들의 삶의 질을 향상시키는데 계기를 마련하고자 한다.
