In this thesis, seven kinds of the Chinese utopian legend, included the legend of Ta-t'ung(大同) and Hsiao-k'ang(小康) society, the legend of the Ching-t'ien(井田) society, the Hsiao-kuo-kua-min(小 國 寡民) society, the Wu-wei-e^rh-chih(無爲而治) society, the Pu-lao-chang-she^ng(不老長生) society, the Wu-ling-t'ao-yu'an(武 陵桃源) society and Shangrila[香巴拉] society, were introduced with the original materials, and those legends' historical meanings were analyzed. The Ta-t'ung and Hsiao-k'ang legend handed down the image of ancient Chinese communities were a social idea of confucianists. The Ching-t'ien legend also reflected the Chinese primitive communities was a model of the Chinese land systems. The Hsiao-kuo-kua-min legend idealized the small states of Ch'u (楚) area was an antithesis of the Chinese despotism. The Wu-wei-e^rh-chih legend also idealized the politics of Ch'u area was a idea of Tao-chia(道家). The Pu-lao-chang-she^ng legend developed by the Taoist hermits with supernatural powers became a idea of Tao-chiao(道敎). The Wu-ling-t'ao-yu'an legend showed a utopia in the south area of Yang-tzu' River was become a idea of most Chinese literary men. The Shangrila legend transmitted from Tibet was a idea of Chinese Buddhists. All of the Chinese utopian legends exercised various and serious influences upon the Chinese historical developments, but most of them were originated in the outsides of China, not inside of China.
