The purposes of this study were to survey realities and characteristics of university lifelong education centers in Busan area, and to diagnose the problems and demands of university lifelong education centers and to propose revitalization plans and policies to the university or regional government. For these, 13 universities' lifelong education centers in Pusan area were surveyed. And the education centers were analyzed in three aspects: system, program, and networking. Even though university lifelong education centers showed great development during last decade, many tasks exit to be solved for developing center's operating systems, quality of programs, and networking aspect. The financial structures of university lifelong education centers especially need to be improved, because most of centers are dependent on the tuition fees only. Also, university lifelong education center need to specialize the programs, to satisfy the demand of diverse participants, and to diverse networking among human and physical resources. Therefore, the results of this study could contribute to establish plans and policies for revitalizing university lifelong education centers.

본 연구는 최근 지역사회에서 평생교육에 대한 중요성이 증가하고 있는 상황에서 부산지역 대학 평생교육원 운영 실태조사를 통해 지역차원의 대학 평생교육원 발전 및 활성화 방안을 모색하는 것을 주된 목적으로 하고 있다. 본 연구를 위해 부산지역 4년제 대학교 부설 13개 평생교육원을 대상으로 전수조사하였으며, 시스템 측면, 프로그램 측면, 네트워킹 측면으로 구분하여 실태를 조사하였다. 대학 평생교육원이 매우 짧은 기간 동안 비약적인 발달을 보였음에도 불구하고 실태조사를 통해 나타난 현황을 살펴보면 여전히 해결해야 할 과제가 많이 존재함을 알 수 있었다. 본 연구를 통해 제안된 대학 평생교육원 차원의 활성화 방안과 정부․지방자치단체 차원의 지원과제의 실천을 통해 수강료에 의존적인 재정구조를 변화하고, 더불어 대학 평생교육원 프로그램의 전문화, 수강 대상의 다양화 및 기관 간 네트워킹 활성화 등을 성취한다면 대학이 평생교육의 이념을 달성하고 지역사회의 발전에 더 많이 공헌할 수 있는 계기가 될 것이다.
