To explain the status of a company needs integrated and objective approaches using various indicators and measures about business activities and accomplishments of the company. Although capacity utilization rate has limitations by nature, the rate has been used as a most important indicator to explain the status of defense industries of Korea by both of government and defense industries. But government and defense industries have such a different standpoint about capacity utilization rate of defense industries, and the system of survey and analyses is not finely established. As a result, those gradually make government and defense industries mutually distrust capacity utilization rate data of defense industries.
This paper presents the new understanding of the concept and the fundamental limitations of capacity utilization rate of defense industries, then reviews the point of issues about the current survey and analyses system. It presents that the meaning and viewpoint of capacity utilization rate needs to be changed, and the purpose and method needs to be classified by companies or items. Also, it presents capacity utilization rate and financial index needs to be used complementarily for understanding of the status of companies
