The aim of this study is to examine the effectiveness of sexual assault treatment programs on 376 adult male offenders who completed the education programs. These programs are conducted at probation offices across the country and target convicted adult sex offenders who were ordered to take education/treatment programs by the court. Before and after implementing the programs, surveys were conducted to evaluate the following : the participants' recognition
and attitude towards the education/treatment programs, the allowance for violence and violation of law, the participants' self-esteem, rape myths. The findings of this study show that participants who completed these programs were able to achieve reductions in the allowance for violence and rape myths, but also showed a growth in self-esteem. In addition, there was some variation in the effectiveness of the programs in terms of age and education level. Limitation of this study, as well as development of follow-up programs and other ways of examining the effectiveness were discussed.

본 연구는 성범죄를 저질러 법원에서 수강명령 처분을 받고 전국 보호관찰소에서 성폭력치료 수강명령 프로그램을 이수한 성인 남성 376명을 대상으로 프로그램의 효과성을 검증하였다. 대상자들에게 수강명령제도에 대한 인식 및 태도, 법위반 및 폭력허용도, 자아존중감, 강간통념을 사전과 사후에 평가하였다. 결과를 살펴보면, 성폭력치료수강명령 프로그램을 이수한 후 폭력허용도 감소, 자아존중감 향상, 강간통념에 대한 수용도 감소가 나타났다. 또한 연령과 학력에 따라서 프로그램의 효과성이 다르게 나타
난 경우가 있었다. 본 연구의 제한점을 논의하고 추후 프로그램 개발 및 효과성 검증의 방향에 대해 제언하였다.
