The heart of international business conversation lies in competitive pressure for internationalization and it is especially widely credited for promoting cross-border acquisitions(CBAs) as an important strategic option in current times. Although the prevalence of the strategy is highlighted, it has in fact received relatively scant attention in the scholarly literature on international business and has been heavily analyzed only in the fields of organization science, finance and financial economics. For these reasons, little is known about the process of knowledge acquisition and learning mechanisms within cross-border acquisitions. In addition, as the emphasis of previous studies tends to be merely on wealth creation, research on performance evaluation has not kept pace with this strategic prevalence in the global market. Recognizing the problem, this paper attempts to seek insights into CBAs and suggests avenues for future research by reviewing current empirics.

최근 국제화에 대한 논의가 폭넓게 진행되고 있으며, 특히 이를 성취하기 위한 기업의 주요한 전략적 옵션으로써 국제인수가 크게 각광받고 있다. 그러나 동 전략의 중요성이 꾸준히 부상하고 있는 것과는 달리 국제경영 분야에서는 그간 학문적 관심을 상대적으로 받지 못해 왔으며, 오히려 조직과학, 재무 및 재무경제학 분야에서 주목을 받아왔다. 이러한 이유로 인해, 국제인수 내 지식습득 과정이나 학습 메커니즘에 대한 실증이 현저히 부족한 상황이고, 더욱이 선행연구의 관심이 ‘인수로 인한 부의 창조 (wealth creation)에 집중됨으로써 국제인수가 기업의 성과측정에 미치는 영향에 대한 적절한 연구가 실행되지 못하고 있다. 동 문제에 대한 인식하에, 본 연구는 국제인수의 특징을 자세히 알아보고, 현재까지 진행된 실증연구를 면밀히 살펴봄으로써 향후 미래 연구과제를 제시해 보고자 한다.
