This study aims to investigate why the children attending after-school Baduk classes attempt
to learn Baduk and continue to do it, by means of paper description and interview. The research results are as follows:
First, the children attend the Baduk class through the recommendation of intimate acquaintances, the invitation or modeling of friends, and their own will, in all of which cases they expect that Baduk will be interesting.
Second, their continuing motivation is for the most part "interest" and almost all of them participate in Baduk learning because of their curiosity on Baduk.
Third, most parents tend to allow their children to keep on learning in case the children take a delight in Baduk class. They feel satisfaction looking at their children's enthusiasm about Baduk and learning it.
Fourth, the parents seem to be motivated more strongly when they trust the teachers of their children, whose factor is mostly combined with the factor of "interest."
Fifth, the factor of effectiveness of Baduk regarded traditionally as the main motivator of Baduk learning like fostering attention ability was shown only in a few parents' cases. There were very few who let their children attend Baduk class on account of the educational effect of Baduk.
These results imply that the interest of Baduk plays a crucial role in Baduk learning and so it
should be considered in setting up the goals of children Baduk education and the marketing
strategies.

방과후 바둑수업에 참여하는 아동들이 왜 바둑수업에 참여하고 계속하는지를 알아보기 위해 아동과 학부모를 대상으로 서면기술과 면접을 통하여 학습동기를 조사해 본 결과 다음과 같이 나타났다.
첫째, 아동들이 바둑수업에 참여하는 계기는 주변사람의 권유, 친구의 권유나 모방, 자신의 판단 등에 의해서이며, 아동들은 바둑이 재미있을 것이라는 기대를 한다.
둘째, 아동들이 바둑학습을 지속하는 동기는 대부분 '재미'로서, 아동들은 거의 모두가 바둑에 재미를 느껴 바둑수업에 참여하고 있었다.
셋째, 대부분의 학부모들은 자녀가 바둑수업을 재미있어 할 경우 학습을 지속시키는 것으로 나타났다. 자녀가 흥미를 갖고 수업에 열심인 모습을 보며 학부모는 만족감을 느끼는 경향을 보였다.
넷째, 학부모들은 교사에 대한 신뢰감을 가질 경우 지속동기가 강화되는 경향을 보이고 있다. '교사신뢰' 요인은 대부분 자녀의 '재미' 요인과 결합이 되어 있다.
다섯째, 전통적인 바둑학습동기로 알려져 왔던 주의력 향상 등 효과성 요인은 일부 학부모에게서만 볼 수 있었다. 바둑이 교육적 효과를 주기 때문에 참여시키는 부모는 극히 적은 것으로 나타났다.
이러한 결과는 아동바둑교육의 방향과 마케팅 전략 등에서 바둑의 재미를 부각시키고 학습자들이 재미를 느끼게 하는 방향으로 목표를 설정할 필요가 있다는 시사점을 제공해 준다.
