The purpose of this study was to interpret the lived experience of native English speaking teachers in Korea who are working at a university. This study is founded on holistic education and conducted in terms of hermeneutic inquiry orientations. These orientations enable the researcher to address teacher identity through interviews and content analysis. It shows that native English speaking teachers point out energy, openness and flexibility as pivotal attainments for being a language teacher. These may be seen as properties of unprofessional identities. And they are also regarded as process properties to cultivate teacher identities. They confirm that teacher identities are formed through community acts and collaboration, not through individual acts.

이 논문은 홀리스틱교육의 질적연구방법으로 해석학을 제안하고, 해석학을 적용하여 한국에서 영어교육을 담당하는 원어민의 교육 및 생활 공간에서의 개방성에 대한 연구이다. 이 연구에서는 먼저 홀리스틱교육의 철학적 배경에서 추출된 육성, 관계성, 생활경험, 비판성이란 특성이 해석학에서 어떤 개념으로 다루어지는 가를 검토하여, 해석학과 홀리스틱 교육의 연관성을 밝혔다. 다음으로 원어민들의 개방성의 의미를 해석학적 접근으로 탐구하여 홀리스틱교육의 관점에서 재해석하였다.
