These days, the community welfare has faced the waves of changes as people has recognized that the community life is very important. Above all, the establishment of the community welfare requires the correct direction to the voluntary participation of the residents and is based on the improvement of the residents with community welfare mind. It is the social welfare education that is essential to carrying out these tasks. As the social welfare is the mega trend and the major issue at this time, it is necessary to extend the concept and the study areas of the welfare education. And the direction should lead you to enhance the importance of social welfare. The major fields of the social welfare education are : Holistic education as a educational principle, Caring education and Peace education as a practical sphere. The present situation in studying the social welfare education in Korea is at the first-stage and has not been systematized scholarly and educationally. This study aims to find out the trend and structure of the social welfare education, and it is expected to be more active for future studies through the writer's introductory study.

현재 지역복지에는 공동체적 삶의 중요성에 대한 관심이 높아지면서 상당한 변화가 일어나고 있다. 지역복지가 올바른 방향으로 정립되려면 무엇보다 지역주민의 자발적 참여가 중요하다. 이를 위해서는 지역복지적 마인드와 심성을 지닌 지역주민들의 성장이 전제되어야 한다. 이런 점에서 지역주민에 대한 복지교육의 중요성은 그 어느 때보다도 더 절실해지고 있다. 사회복지가 시대적 화두이자 소명이 되고 있는 오늘날에 있어 그 복지교육의 확대필요성은 절실하다. 그 방향은 무엇보다 전문가가 아닌 일반시민에 대한 사회복지의 중요성과 이해도를 제고시키는 방향이 되어야 한다. 교육영역과 관련해서 복지교육 원리영역의 정립을 위해 홀리스틱 교육 패러다임의 도입과 복지교육으로의 응용적 전환이 필요하고, 실천영역으로는 배려교육과 평화교육이 기본적으로 포함되어야 한다. 현재 복지교육은 학문적으로나 교육실천적으로나 아직 연구가 일천하여 체계화되지 못하였기에, 이에 관한 연구는 모색의 단계에 있다. 따라서 이 연구는 복지교육에 관한 연구가 본격화되고 활성화되기를 기대하며, 향후 더욱 진전된 연구를 위한 기초 작업이라는 의도하에 시도되는 서설적 연구의 성격을 지니고 있다 할 것이다.
