Multi-cultural families have many problems such as adaptation to Korean society, difficulty in children breeding and their education, family discord and increasing divorce rate followed it, and these are still ongoing. Especially, they have crime occurrence and victimization factors, such as understanding problem between neighbors from different culture, crime related to specific cultural background, mistakes from ignorance of the law, domestic violence, crime experience in life, and fear from crime possibility that could be caused because of distinguishing trait by name of foreigner. Police's comprehensive and long term perspective and confrontation are required, for that, opposed to confusion and conflict in our country from crimes possibly made by multi-cultural families. It is thought that their primary crime elements could be a critical issue in Korean society with increment rate of this type of family. In this study, we will search for crime occurrence and victimizations of multi-cultural families connected to police function, placing importance on presenting its direction of police activity in growing multi-cultural society. Accomplishing purpose of study, suggested for the reliable index making for crime breaking and damage from it to multi-cultural families, security service fitted to family's life cycle aspect, human right protective device operating and its extension are prescribed for crime prevention and support victimization strategy.

다문화가정의 가정폭력으로 인한 범죄피해와 다문화가정에 의한 범죄발생은 현재 진행형이다. 특히, 다문화가정의 경우 다양한 문화권 출신에 따른 이웃주민들간 이해의 문제, 특정한 문화적 배경과 관련된 범죄문제, 법률에 대한 무지에서 오는 착오의 문제, 가정폭력문제, 한국생활 내에서의 범죄피해경험, 외국인이라는 특징적 요인으로 인한 범죄발생 및 범죄피해는 일반인과 다르게 나타나고 있다. 이에 앞으로 한국사회에서 중요한 사회문제가 될 수 있는 다문화가정의 범죄로 인한 한국사회의 혼란과 갈등에 대비하고 다문화가정 구성원들의 범죄피해에 대한 지원을 위해서 경찰의 거시적이고 장기적인 관점과 대응이 요구된다. 따라서 이 연구에서는 다문화가정의 범죄피해 및 범죄발생 실태를 살펴보고, 이를 통하여 경찰의 범죄예방 및 범죄피해지원 활동방안으로서 다문화사회 범죄발생 및 범죄피해 지표개발, 다문화가정 생애주기별 맞춤 치안서비스, 다문화 정보자료실 구축, 다문화 인권보호센터 운영 및 확대방안을 제시하였다. 이 연구는 다문화가정에 대한 경찰활동의 선행연구로서 다문화가정의 경찰활동에 대한 필요성을 인식하고 향후 다문화가정에 대한 경찰활동의 방향을 제시하는데 의의가 있다.
