This study was to find the transmission and acculturation of Korean traditional physical education of Korean-Chinese of Yanbian province in China. In order to understand Korean traditional physical education of Korean-Chinese in this area, the researcher had interviewed, field surveyed and participant observed for a year. Especially the development of events such as Ssirum, Swing and Seesaw, the official sport entries of traditional sports competitions by minority ethnics of China, were reviewed. Traditional physical education of Korean-Chinese is an aspect that usually takes place at events in subdivisions of the seasons along with traditional dance. They were both used to strengthen racial characteristics. Urbanization increased the number of people leaving agriculture, putting the foundation of traditional culture at peril. This made sports become sports for the elite athletes, and blocked the traditional base from expanding. Until now Ssirum, Swing and Seesaw and other traditional physical events are being opened through few minority races, Yanbian University, and Yanbian physical school.

본 고는 참여관찰과 면담을 통하여 중국 연변 지역의 조선족의 전통체육활동의 전승과정을 살펴봄으로써 전통체육의 실체를 파악하고, 그 과정에서 어떻게 변질되었는지를 알아 본 것이다. 특히, 중국소수
민족 전통체육대회의 정식경기종목인 씨름과 그네 그리고 올해 처음으로 새롭게 추가된 표연(表演)종목인 널뛰기 등의 발전과정을 알아보고, 경기화의 과정으로 인해 어떠한 변용이 이루어졌는지를 살펴보
았다. 중국조선족의 전통체육은 민족의 절기 행사에서 전통무용과 함께 민족성을 대표하는 행사 위주로 펼쳐지고 있다. 전통체육은 중국의 도시화에 따른 이농현상으로 전통문화의 근간이 무너지면서, 경기 스포츠화한 엘리트 위주로 바뀌고 대중화되지 못하여 전통의 저변확대에 문제가 있다. 아직까지 씨름과 그네, 널뛰기 등의 전통체육종목의 전통은 몇몇 소수의 인물들과 연변대학 그리고 연변체육학교를 통해서 이루어지고 있다.
