The purpose of this study is to find out the expectation levels of students, parents, and teachers on the teacher’s role, as well as analyze the differences between the expectation levels between students, parents, and teachers so as to figure out the proper role of a teacher, eliminate conflicts in the teacher’s role, and propose data so that the role may be fulfilled efficiently. The research results found through the aforementioned processes are as follows: First, the students’ expectations on the role of the homeroom teacher show partial differences by the student’s variable. Second, the expectations of parents regarding the role of the homeroom teacher showed partial differences by the parents’ variables. Third, the teachers’ expectations of the role of the homeroom teacher showed differences in some sections dependant on the teachers’ variables.
Fourth, differences in the expectations on the role of an elementary school homeroom teacher, children, parents, and teachers exhibited notable differences in all aspects of academic direction, social counseling, social skills, and class management. In regards to the role of a class’ homeroom teacher as a whole, teachers had higher expectations than parents and children. When comparing the averages of the lower-rank portion, it is possible to notice how children, parents, and teachers show high averages in the category of social skills.

교육은 교사와 학생, 그리고 학부모 사이의 인격적인 만남을 통해 이루어지는 만큼 교육현장에 있어서 우선 학생들과 학부모의 필요, 기대 등을 잘 파악하여야 한다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 초등학교 담임교사의 역할에 대한 학생과 학부모, 교사의 기대를 알아보고, 학생과 학부모, 교사간의 역할기대의 차이를 알아보았다. 연구의 대상은 초등학교 3,4,5,6학년 학생 277명과 학부모 267명, 교사 225명으로 하였다. 설문은 담임교사의 역할을 학습지도, 생활지도, 인간관계, 학급경영면으로 나누어 조사하였으며, 조사의 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 전체적으로 초등학교 담임교사의 역할에 대한 학생과 학부모, 교사의 기대 차이를 살펴보았을 때 모든 영역에서 교사 기대 평균점수가 가장 높게 나타났다. 또한 학생, 교사, 학부모의 기대 분석에서 인간관계 영역의 평균점수가 가장 높게 나타났다. 둘째, 교사의 역할에 대한 학생의 기대는 학생 변인별로 부분적인 차이를 보이고 있다. 셋째, 교사의 역할에 대한 학부모의 기대는 학부모 변인별로 부분적인 차이를 보이고 있다. 넷째, 교사의 역할에 대한 교사의 기대는 교사 변인별로 부분적인 차이를 보이고 있다. 본 연구를 통하여 교육의 소비자 집단인 학생과 학부모들이 원하는 바람직한 교사의 역할을 모색하고, 교사 자신의 역할을 확인해 봄으로써, 앞으로 교육기관에서 어떤 모습의 교사를 교육하고, 교사들 스스로 어떤 역할과 자질을 갖추어야 할 것인가에 대한 자료를 제공할 수 있으리라 기대한다.
