The purpose of this study is to investigate the research trends of creative dance for senior citizens by analyzing 137 masters’ and doctors’ theses of dance majors and papers published in academic journals in Korea from 1989 to 2010,and suggesting a future research paradigm. Data were classified in terms of research themes, purposes, methods, objects and periods and tools for data collection, and methods of data analysis. Contents of classified research materials were analyzed in the process of data analysis, and then frequency and proportion were calculated. To secure the reliability and validity of the analysis processes, a constant comparative method was used, and classified research materials were confirmed by two dance majors with doctoral degrees, and discussed by three researchers and colleagues on three separate occasions. As a result, theoretical conceptualization was considerably well described based on research on literature analysis, and various research into the application of creative dance hasprogressed. However, just a few of these studies have dealt with senior citizens, None of them whatsoever dealt with old people’s satisfaction with their lives. For these reasons, qualitative research methods suitable for the aged should be utilized based on an appropriate understanding of creative dance, and quantitative research should be conducted in a manner following scientific procedures. Through this, various research directions for creative dance should be investigated to come closer to research methods that fit the paradigm.

본 연구는 1989년부터 2010년까지 국내에서 발간된 무용분야의 석․박사논문 및 학술지에 개재된 137편을 선정하여 노인을 대상으로 한 창작무용의 연구동향을 알아보고 이를 토대로 앞으로의 연구 페러다임을 제시하는데 목적이 있다. 자료분류는 발표시기, 연구주제, 연구목적, 연구방법, 연구대상, 연구기간, 자료수집도구, 자료분석 방법으로 분류하였고, 분류된 연구물은 자료분석 과정에서 내용분석을 실시한 후 빈도와 비율을 산출하고 분석과정에 대한 신뢰도와 타당성을 확보하기 위해 항시비교법, 무용전공 박사학위소지자 2인에게 연구물 분류에 대한 확인과정, 3인의 연구진 회의 및 동료 간 협의를 3번 거쳤다. 그 결과 문헌분석 연구를 토대로 이론적 개념은 대체로 잘 서술되어 있었고, 창작무용을 적용 한 실험 연구가 많이 진행되고 있었지만, 그 중 노인을 대상으로 한 연구는 소수에 불과한 것으로 확인되었고, 연구 목적 또한 노인들과는 다소 거리감이 있는 학업성취, 신체상 등의 연구가 있었으며 노인들의 생활만족에 관련된 연구는 없는 것으로 나타났다. 따라서 창작무용의 올바른 이해를 토대로 노인에게 알맞은 질적연구방법을 활용하고 과학적 절차에 따른 양적연구를 실행해야하며, 이를 통해 노인을 위한 창작무용의 다각적인 연구방향을 모색하여 페러다임에 맞는 연구방법으로 접근해야 한다.
