This study compares family communication patterns and family types of Korean and American college students focusing on RFCP(Revised Family Communication Pattern), recognizing the importance of intercultural family communication. And this study also analyzes the differences of satisfaction levels of parents between them based on the above results.
Major findings are ① Both Korean and American college students showed higher conversation-orientation than confirmity-orientation. American students was higher than Korean students in both orientations. And they showed a significant difference between two orientations. ② The most family type is a pluralistic family in both students, and they showed a significant difference in their family types. ③ Both students showed a positive relationship between conversation-orientation and parents satisfaction and a negative relationship between the confirmity-
orientation and parents satisfaction. And they showed high parents satisfaction in the concensual and pluralistic family types and low parents satisfaction of in the protective and lasses-faire family types.

본 연구는 문화간 가족 커뮤니케이션의 중요성을 인식하여, 수정 가족 커뮤니케이션 패턴(RFCP: Revised Family Communication Pattern)을 중심으로 우리나라와 미국대학생들의 가족 커뮤니케이션 패턴과 가족 유형의 차이를 비교 분석하였다. 그리고 이를 바탕으로 우리나라와 미국대학생들이 부모와의 만족도에 있어서 어떠한 차이를 보이는 가를 살펴보았다.
주요 연구결과로는 첫째, 우리나라 대학생과 미국대학생은 가족 커뮤니케이션 패턴에 있어서 대화지향성이 일치지향성보다 높았다.
또한 우리나라 대학생에 비해 미국대학생이 대화지향성과 일치지향성이 모두 높았다. 그리고 우리나라 대학생과 미국대학생간에 대화지향성과 일치지향성이 유의미한 차이를 보였다. 둘째, 우리나라와 미국대학생 가장 많은 가족 유형은 다원적 가족이었으나, 이들의 가족 유형은 유의미한 차이가 보였다. 셋째, 우리나라와 미국대학생은 모두 부모와의 만족도에 있어서 대화지향성은 긍정적 상관관계를 보인 반면 일치지향성이 부정적 상관관계를 보였다. 또한 다원적 가족과 합의적 가족이 부모와의 만족도가 높은 반면, 방임적 가족과 보호적 가족은 부모와의 만족도가 낮았다.
