The purpose of this thesis is to investigate meanings of a So Dam Jib (jokebook) so called which is estimated to be published between 1941-1942. has a characteristic of collection that gathered stories particularly related to sex between men and women among previous folktale collections. However, while succeeds tradition of previous folktale stories by maintaining a 4 characters title in its composition, it also has a dual structure which breaks tradition of previous folktale stories by excluding critical parts. For this reason, we have to focus on the fact that the period when was created was a colonial period. Folktale stories in tradition period had their publishing purpose on literary purpose. However, when was published, it was a colonial period that required establishment of national identity. This is why critical part was omitted in unlike previous folktale stories. It reflects such fact by not adopting a title in a form of ‘Pa Su’ in but by naming its title with ‘Min Sok : folk.’ shows big differences with traditional folktale collections in two distinctive aspects. First, collected stories are short and produce strong laughter in most cases; second, it induces establishment of national identity by introducing ‘Bang Eun : dialect.’ This thesis paid attention and investigated its meaning in above a few characteristics of which were not shown in the previous folktale collections.

본고는 1941～1942년에 편찬되었을 것으로 추정되는 ꡔ民俗叢談ꡕ이라는 笑話集에 대한 의미를 탐색한 글이다. ꡔ民俗叢談ꡕ은 기존의 패설집들에서 남녀의 성에 관한 이야기를 중심으로 가려 모은 叢集의 성격을 갖는다. 그런데 ꡔ民俗叢談ꡕ은 그 구성에 있어 4자 제목을 유지한다는 점에서 기존 패설의 전통을 계승하고 있는데 비해, 논평부를 배제하고 있다는 점에서 기존 패설의 전통을 벗어난 이중 구조를 지닌다. 이 이유에 대하여는 ꡔ民俗叢談ꡕ이 생성된 시기가 식민지 시기라는 사실에 주목할 필요가 있다. 전통 시대의 패설집들은 그 편찬 목적을 문학적 효용에 두었다. 그러나 ꡔ民俗叢談ꡕ이 생성된 시기는 식민지 시기로 민족적 정체성 확립이 요구되는 때였다. 이 점이 바로 ꡔ民俗叢談ꡕ에서 기존 패설의 논평부가 누락된 이유이다. ꡔ民俗叢談ꡕ이 ‘破睡’ 형태의 제목을 취하지 않고 제목을 ‘民俗’이라 한 것은 이를 반영한 것이라 하겠다. ꡔ民俗叢談ꡕ은 크게 두 가지 측면에서 전통의 패설집과는 큰 차이를 보인다. 첫째는 수록된 이야기들이 대체로 짧은 양으로 강한 웃음을 유발하고 있으며, 둘째는 ‘方言’의 소개를 통해 민족적 정체성 확립을 유도하고 있다는 점이다. 이 글은 ꡔ民俗叢談ꡕ이 기존의 패설집에서는 보이지 않는 이런 몇 가지 특징에 주목하여 그 의의를 살펴보았다.
