This paper aims at examining how hospitality industry contributes to the economy of Okinawa; and how hospitality cluster has been formed. This paper addresses these issues by analyzing the case of Okinawa’s hospitality industry. The hospitality industry in Okinawa has steadily developed. However, there are some critical issues, such as providing job opportunity for local people; and surviving in the severely competitive market. Firstly, this paper explains how hospitality industry contributes to the economy of Okinawa. It is found that hospitality industry seems to create jobs opportunities for local employees in Okinawa, where the unemployment attracted high attention. And finally, this study figures out that hospitality industry in Okinawa has clustered through the interactions among all of the four diamond facets, solving the issues that the hospitality industry is faced up with.

本研究の目的は，沖縄県のホスピタリティ産業を事例として用いて，ホスピタリティ産業がどのくらい地域経済に貢献しているのか，そしてホスピタリティ産業がどのように地域にクラスターの形成をもたらしているのかを明らかにすることである。沖縄県におけるホスピタリティ産業は，着々と発展してきた。しかし，沖縄県には，「地域住民の雇用機会の確保」「競争が激化した市場」といった課題が存在する。そこで本研究では，ホスピタリティ産業が沖縄経済にどのように貢献しているのかを考察した。この考察を通して，全国の中でも深刻な失業率の課題を抱えている沖縄県において，ホスピタリティ産業は地域住民に雇用の機会を創出していることが窺えた。そして，本研究では，ホスピタリティ産業が直面している課題を解決し，Porterのダイヤモンド・モデルにおける4要素の相互作用を通じて，沖縄県においてホスピタリティ産業のクラスターが形成され，強化されていることが明らかになった。
