Seon seeks for the truth derived from the innately pure mind and all the truth here is attained on the very spot where we lead our ordinary lives like having meals, sleeping and so on. Hence, a Seon aphorism, "When meeting with a Buddha, kill the Buddha; when meeting with a Patriarch, kill the Patriarch," as any attachment to the form is only a delusion. Therefore, it is inevitable in Seon that the aspects of the truth vary depending upon the flow of human lives and history in this world. There is a major premise ever the same, however. That is, a human being can not be the guest but the master of himself in any circumstances. By such human beings, or the masters of themselves, the enlightenment or truth of Seon can be realized in the spirit of 'universal compassion grounded on non-duality between oneself and others同體大悲' on the basis of the 'world-view of dependent origination'. That is the principle of the 'change of delusion into awakening轉迷開悟'.
Accordingly, Seon makes constant attempts for 'openness' and 'interbeing' and in order to reach such spiritual states we need to be transformed into the type of human being suitable for Seon spirituality.

선은 ‘自性淸淨心’에 의해서 생성되는 진리를 추구하며, 이때 모든 진리는 우리가 밥을 먹고 잠을 자는 현장에서 구해진다. 그런 의미에서 相에 집착하는 것은 모두 迷妄이 되기 때문에 부처를 만나면 부처를 죽이고 조사를 만나면 조사를 죽인다. 따라서 이 세계에서의 삶과 역사가 진행됨에 따라서 그 진리의 양태가 달라지는 것은 선의 필연이다. 하지만 절대로 양보할 수 없는 대전제가 있다. 그것은 어떤 경우에도 인간은 주인이지 손님이 될 수 없다는 것이다. 선의 경우 주인공인 인간들이 ‘緣起的 世界觀’을 바탕으로 ‘自他의 同一性에 입각한 同體大悲’의 정신으로 만들어 가는 것이 깨달음이자 진리가 된다. 이것이 ‘轉迷開悟’이다. 따라서 선은 ‘열림’과 ‘더불어 삶’을 끊임없이 시도한다. 그러기 위해서는 우리 스스로부터 선적 정신에 걸맞는 인간형으로 변화해야만 한다.
