The purpose of this study is to introduce experiential case study of peer tutoring as the activity of a learning community and to investigate students' perceptions about participation effect and students' improvement in the academic progress in special-purposed K-university. The results reveal two findings.
First, the statistical analysis indicated that tutoring had significant influence on tutees' academic performance and helped students at the below average achievement level than at the above average levels. Second, tutees' main perceptions of effect were ‘acquirement of habit to prepare and to review lessons’ and ‘obtainment of the information about exam’ and ‘improvement in the academic achievement’. Tutors' main perceptions of effect were ‘acquirement of habit to prepare and to review lessons’, ‘practice to teach’ and ‘acquirement of habit to study with others’. In conclusion, K-university tutoring program fulfilled an tutors' and tutee's various needs and had positive effect on academic achievement.

본 연구의 목적은 학습공동체의 운영 사례로 대학 동료 튜터링 제도의 경험적 사례를 제공하는 것이다. 학습공동체는 개인 중심의 학습형태를 넘어서 구성원 모두의 학습을 촉진하고 서로간의 상호작용을 증가시키는 것을 핵심가치로 한다. 변화하는 세계에 대응하는 학습능력을 갖춘 인력을 양성하기 위해 대학에서는 다양한 형태의 학습공동체를 운영하고 있다. 본 연구에서는 K대학교의 운영사례를 기술하고, 동료 튜터링이 학업성취도에 미치는 효과와 동료 튜터링 프로그램에 대한 튜터와 튜티의 인식을 조사하였다. 연구 결과는 두 가지로 요약된다. 첫째, 튜티의 튜터링 참여 학기 성적은 참여하지 않았던 직전 학기 성적과 비교하여 통계적으로 유의한 향상이 있었으며, 특히 직전 학기 성적이 평균 이하인 학생들의 성적이 통계적으로 유의한 향상이 있었다. 둘째, 튜티가 인식하는 동료 튜터링의 효과는 예습 및 복습 태도 형성, 시험 대비에 유익한 각종 정보 취득, 성적 향상의 순으로 나타났고, 튜터가 인식하는 효과는 예습 및 복습 태도 형성, 수업 지도법 연습, 후배 혹은 친구와 공부하는 태도 형성의 순으로 나타났다. 더불어 튜티와 튜터는 높은 재참여 의사와 추천 의사를 피력하였다. 연구는 K대학교에서 실시한 튜터링 프로그램이 학습공동체의 운영 형태로서 가지는 의의로 결론을 맺었다.
